Newfoundland lost Labrador? How'd that happen? Nik42 22:37, 7 Feb 2005 (PST)
Also, is this Edward any connection with *here*'s Edward VIII?
- Well, I have to check a little more history on Canadian provinces to check the plausability of separated Labrador and Newfoundland. I'll change if anything does not seems right.
- About the British kings (Edward would be king of the United Kingdom, the Maritime Provinces, Canada, and other commonwealth kingdoms)... after 243 years since the POD, I would see little resemblance to OTL kings. ... I guess that there was not even a Victoria...

- Yeah, that's probably a good point about the kings. Nik42 03:44, 9 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- Hmm ... according to Wikipedia, Labrador was originally part of Quebec, then Newfoundland, then Quebec, and then transferred back.
- 1763: Labrador is transferred from the French colony Canada to the British colony Newfoundland as per the Treaty of Paris.
- 1774: Labrador is transferred (along with Anticosti Island and the Magdalen Islands) to Quebec.
- 1791: Labrador becomes part of Lower Canada when Quebec is divided into two colonies.
- 1809: Labrador (from Cape Chidley to the mouth of the Saint-Jean River) is transferred back to Newfoundland.
- 1825: The north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence west of Blanc-Sablon and south of 52° north is separated from Labrador and transferred back to Lower Canada.
So, it looks like the Treaty of Paris is the critical issue. Though, I suspect that if Labrador was not transferred, that it would simply be part of the province of Quebec today Nik42 06:08, 9 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- Or we can just avoid the 1809 transfer. We have just to check why those changes took place. --Chlewey 15:27, 9 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- After the treaty of paris, all the changes pretty much happened on the whim of the monarch since they were all land belonging to the british empire anyway. In this timeline, it could have stayed with canada to make a logical border between the 2 federations (the middle of the waters between the coasts). On the other hand, it could have been given to the smaller of the 2 federation in an effort to boost its territory--Marc pasquin 21:53, 26 Feb 2005 (GMT)
Flags[]
2 flag proposals, feel free to ignore, I just felt inspiration. Considering how close both british dominions are, you would assume that they would try to have something different so the UMP might avoid the red or dark blue ensign--Marcpasquin 21:25, 4 Apr 2005 (EDT)
French[]
this federation could also be bilingual, near half the population in new-brunswick would be francophones and you get some in the other provinces (and a majority in St-piere-et-miquelon). Also, the fact that the last one is a full province would give some leverage to make sure it's language and culture is recognised.--Marc pasquin 21:53, 26 Feb 2005 (GMT)
