Thailand, officially known as the Kingdom of Thailand (Thai: ราชอาณาจักรไทย Ratcha Anachak Thai) is a sovereign monarchy located in the heart of Southeast Asia. The Kingdom shares borders with Laos and Myanmar to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the east, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia to the south, and the Andaman Sea to the west. The Thai Royal Family (from the House of Chakri) is has ruled the country since ancient times. The country recently had a coup de'tat in May 2014, disposing the democratically elected government with a military junta. With the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) in October 2016, Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun became the 10th King of the House of Chakri in December 2016, with the title as Rama X.
