The Greater Filipino Republic was created after the WW2 on 1946. They control the whole Southeast Asia. They are a member of the United Nations and the Asian Defense League.
History[]
The Spanish Invasion of the Philippines[]
In 1521, the Spanish empire colonized the Philippines by Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer sailing for Spain. The Spanish converted most of the Filipinos into Christianity and made the country into its only colony in Asia to acquire a share in Spice Trade. Another goal of the Spaniards on colonizing Philippines is to also convert other Asian countries such as China and Japan into Christianity.
The Fight for Independence[]
Different Filipino's throughout the years of being under the Spanish wanted Independence. Some fought through peaceful ways while others use violence. Jose Rizal, a Filipino Nationalists wrote 2 books that shows the abuses of the Spanish empire to the enslaved Filipinos and inspired different Filipino's to revolt against the empire. Rizal died a hero to the Filipinos on December 30 1896. This marked the start of a war between the Spaniards and Filipino's
The Spanish-Philippine War[]
Emilio Aguinaldo and his revolutionaries began to fight against the Spanish empire. Some were victories while other were losses. In the end, the Spanish and Filipino's both know that they could not win the war so they signed a treaty with each other to end the war. Aguinaldo and his allies were exiled to Hong Kong where they created the present Philippine Flag
The American-Philippine war[]
War broke out between the Spanish and Americans when the USS Maine sunk in Cuba who was fighting for Independence from Spain with the help of the US. The War ended on December 10 1898 when Spain signed the Treaty of Paris to the US. Colonies that were once controlled by the Spanish empire were now independent especially the Philippines. The US began to establish peaceful ties with the now independent Philippines but that soon all went in vain when war broke out between the 2 countries. The war lasted for 2 years and ended on a US victory, making the US a colony once again of another country.
WW2[]
When WW2 began on 1939, the Philippine government who were still under the US thought that they will be safe from war until on 1941 the Japanese Empire attacked and took over the Philippines after the empire attacked Pearl Harbor. Filipino and American soldiers fought the Japanese invaders but later surrendered when they were outnumbered and outgunned. Even when the Philippines surrendered, many Filipinos joined resistance groups against the Japanese. They used guerilla tactics against the Japanese until the war ended on 1945 on a allied victory led by the US and the Philippines liberated on 1944 by their colonizers themselves.
The Aftermath of WW2[]
When WW2 ended, America recognized the Philippines independence and gave them freedom. The new government created a democratic government called the Greater Philippine Republic. The Philippine Army, Air Force and Navy began to reconstruct themselves, slowly becoming powerful. Economy becoming better. The Republic became an ally of the US and member of the United Nations. Manuel Roxas was elected as the president of the Philippines.
The Cold War[]
The Soviet Union viewed the Philippines as an enemy because of their alliance to the United States but maintained a peaceful relationship to the country. Communists Rebels terrorized and attacked the country in Mindanao which the Republic proved a threat, the Soviet Union denied their involvement on supporting the rebels.
Vietnam War[]
The Philippines joined the war and helped the US fighting against North Vietnam which was led by the communist Viet Cong and supported by the Chinese and Russians. The War was later on by the US and its allies, driving the communists out of the country.
Korean War[]
The Philippines joined the war and helped the UN on fighting against the North Koreans and Chinese. The War was later won by the North Koreans with the help of China and Soviet Union.
The Philippine Civil War[]
The Communist Rebels called New People's Army or the NPA successfully attack and occupy the city of Marawi in Mindanao, declaring war against the Republic. The rebels surprised the police which led them to easily take over the city. The US helped the Republic due to their support and alliance. After 5 months of fighting for the city, the Republic manage to push the rebels back and prepare a devastating blow to them but then several attacks on cities and towns all over the Philippine began to happen by other rebels such as the Fascist Filipino Party or the FFP who took advantage of the war in Marawi. The NPA knowing that they will be defeated, retreated and hid in the mountains to regroup and prepare for another attack. Meanwhile different rebel groups attacked and occupied different cities and towns which led to a start of a civil war. These rebels united themselves into a group called the New Order which was led by the FFP and NPA. The UN and US sent troops to prevent another Korean war in the Philippines and stop the Order from taking over the country. The Philippines was put on Martial Law. The Civil war lasted for 5 years until the Philippine Army struck a devastating blow to the New Order by launching an all out attack on the main headquarters of the rebels which was in Pasig City.
Martial Law[]
Ferdinand Marcos, the 11th president of the Philippines declares Martial law on the whole country. Some Historians argue whether it was declared because of corruption of the president and his allies or the threat of a communist takeover of rebels. Martial Law ended when the People Power Revolution happened where millions of Filipinos take the streets and protested peacefully against the Marcos Regime. The Revolution ended when Marcos steps down as president and flees with family and allies to Hawaii. Corazon Aquino then became the 12th president of the Philippines.
The Fall of Soviet Union[]
When the Soviet Union fell, what remains of the Communist rebels disbanded and brought themselves to the authorities while others continue to fight the Republic. The Philippines joins the newly established Asian Defense League and becomes one of the most important countries in the League.
