March 1968: MLK ducks before James Earl Ray can shoot him, and calls the police.

January 6 1975: Martin Luther King announces that he is running for President as a Democrat.

August 29 1976: MLK chooses his running Mate at the DNC - Jimmy Carter of Georgia.

November 4 1976: In a surprise election, Martin Luther King wins the election by a Landslide, taking Nebraska, New York, Tennessee, the West Coast, Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Illinois and just barely Texas against President Gerald Ford of Michigan.

January 20 1977: Martin Luther King is sworn in as the 39th President of the United States. There was an unsuccessful attempt by the KKK to assassinate the President.
