The Monkees, once a big name in the music world during their heyday in 1967, was a currently little known band who had a number of hits on the billboard charts, but remain very little known. Formed in 1966 for a television show, the band's music and show became a big hit, spawning singles like Daydream Believer(1967) and Last Train to Clarksville(1966).
After the large success of The Monkees album sales, in which they outsold The Beatles in 1967 in North America, their titular show was renewed for a third season, and a world tour was planned. However, their plans were cut short when in March of 1968, during a concert in Maine, all four Monkees were assassinated by a unknown assassin. The band soon fell into obscurity afterwards and their albums are long out of print, and their TV show is considered to be mostly lost media.
