October 15 (POD) - Mo Xiong, who was a member of the spy network embedded into the headquarters of the Kuomintang in Nanchang by Zhou Enlai, is discovered and interrogated. The spy network is discovered and its members are executed on charges of espionage.
October 17 - Generalissmo Chiang Kai-shek launches a large offensive against the encircled Red Army in the Jiangxi province of China. Through a combination of poor intelligence, low morale, severe casualties, and lack of supplies, the Communists were decisively defeated by the Nationalists. Those few who survived the battle either fled into the surrounding countryside, or were captured and later executed by Nationalist forces.

November 1 - U.S. President Harry S. Truman is mortally wounded by a gunshot wound to the head after two Puerto Rican nationalists, Oscar Collazo and Griselio Torresola, who attempted to storm the Blair House in Washington, D.C. where Truman was staying while the White House was undergoing renovation.
