Tony Blair is a British Labour Party politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1995 - 2003).
Blair entered parliament at the 1982 general election as the MP for Sedgefield. In 1984, he entered government as Education Minister, subsequently serving in the Treasury and as the Minister of Trade and Industry. He entered the Cabinet in 1988 as Secretary of State for Energy, where he remained until a reshuffle following the resignation of Denis Healey; which saw him moved to the position of Education Secretary.
Early Life[]
Anthony Charles Lynton Blair was born on 6 May 1953, at Queen Mary Maternity Home in Edinburgh to Hazel (née Corscadden) and Leo Blair. The Blair family lived at Paisley Terrace in Willowbrae, Edinburgh until 1954; when they moved to Adelaide, Australia and his father found employment as a lecturer at the University of Adelaide. Blair's sister Sarah was born in Australia and the family returned to the UK in 1958. Following a period of time living in Stepps, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, Leo Blair accepted a job lecturing at Durham University and the family relocated to England.
