Flag of Transylvania (before 1918)

Transylvania (German: Siebenbürgen, meaning "[the country of the] seven castles") is a part of Romania, separated by the Carpathian mountain range from the rest of the country. For several centuries, it used to be a part of Hungary. It has strong Hungarian and German minorities, although most of the latter have left.

In fiction, it's (in)famous for being the home of Count Dracula.
