In the wake of the War of the Second Coalition. France stands triumphant over its enemies, not only retaining its independence as a republic but also expanding into Central Europe through the use of several puppet regimes. Meanwhile, European powers have begun to expand into previously unknown lands in Africa and Oceania, whilst the decline of the Ottoman Empire seems inevitable. The year is 1802 and war is on the horizon, whether you are ready for it or not!

Rules[]

  • There are two turns per year in this map game. During those turns you can either improve two of three categories (infrastructure, economy or military). Vassals can have their stats improved independently of their host nations (e.g., Austria improves military and economy. Hungary improves economy and infrastructure).
  • No sock-puppeting (using alternative accounts), if you have been banned from the wiki then you will be banned here until your ban is lifted.
  • You must be plausible!
  •  If you remain inactive for a sustained period of time (past four turns) then your nation will suffer mod related disasters and you will eventually be removed from the game.
  • Influencing and creating vassals requires several turns, again be plausible.
  • A new turn will start around 22:00 UTC.
  • Game will be archived every ten years.
  • No vassal spamming. Vassals must be both plausible and make sense (e.g., there is no reason for France to make Calais into a vassal).
  • Uncivilized nations will take varying amounts of time to westernise, be plausible.
  • Please be courteous to other users. Engaging in profane and/or disruptive arguments will have all participating parties suspended from the game. Instead, a polite, calm discussion or debate with mod mediation is preferred.

La Paz is recaptured by Spanish forces. However, the rebellion leads to Argentine revolutionaries rising up in Buenos Aires and expelling the Vichy, beginning the South American wars of independence.

Empire of Japan

  • Japanese infrastructure: Rebuilding is going well. Expansion of Edō is now 40% complete. The campus of Edō University has been completed. Discussions are currently underway as to whether to establish other universities in Kyoto and Kagoshima.
  • Japanese military: Both the frigate and the man-of-war have been completed and christened the IJS Chishinakaze (致死な風 - Deadly Wind) and IJS Kyodaina Eihei (巨大な衛兵 - Huge guard) respectively. Five of the ten ordered ironclads have also been completed. In total, the Imperial Japanese Navy operates 13 brigs, six ironclads, one frigate, one man-of-war and around 200 Red Seal Ships (former merchant armed vessels which were commissioned into the navy after lifting of the Sakoku policy), organised into ten fleets.
  • Japanese politics: Seeing the need for political change as the western nations around them democratise, the Shogun of Japan decrees that in the event of his death or abdication, the adult male population will elect the new Shogun, with the candidates being his two sons. While this is only but a highly limited form of democracy, the move is applauded by the west as a step in the right direction.

Morocco: Builds infrastructure.

United States of America: As the demand for American goods skyrockets, more factories are built in the North and West. The western states overtake the south (excluding Louisiana and Florida) in levels of industrialization, but are far behind the Northeast. Universities are built farther West and South to improve the literacy rate of the nation and slave owners are required to have their slaves read and write basic English. Houses are built and roads are extended to accommodate more people. Bridges over rivers are also built while the cities of New York, Boston, Miami, New Orleans, and Chicago are widened while the national railway covers 80% of the nation. Further developments on weapons, most notably the cannon and the musket continue, as experimental mortars are now being tested and prototype rifles are now being removed of flaws before being used by the army. The navy stands at 350 ships, 75 of which are ironclads and 100 are steam powered. The construction of frigates lessen in favor of the ironclad. We continue voicing our support for the nationalist rebels in South America. Our explorers also pass the tip of South America and are expected to land in OTL Papua New Guinea or OTL Northeast Australia. We expand by 100 px in the West (infra/mil).

  • Liberia: Economy and infrastructure improve. We expand by 100 px.
  • Japanese Dip: The Empire of Japan encourages the United States to establish Pacific colonies so that trade between our two countries can be made more practical. We also offer to purchase the US' rail technologies for Japanese use.

Sicily: As the schools and academy near completion, plans are drawn up to create a national railroad linking Palermo, Catania, Messina, and Syracuse. Sicily proposes to Naples to build a Trans-Italian Railway, with ferries carrying the cars off the train across the Strait of Messina. With walls and a government building finishing construction on Tombo Island, the Colony of Nuova Catania is established.

The Netherlands: We ask Sicily for trade routes and we also ask UK for a royal marriage the prince of Holland and one of their daughters, the Dutch begin sailing and setting Madagascar in search for gold, the Dutch also ask the US for guns and they also build more infrastructure like a new bank of holland. The Netherlands also requests a new embassy in Japan.

  • Japanese response: The Empire permits the Netherlands to establish a new embassy in Edō in order to further the pursuit of international relations between the Empire and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Argentine Revolutionaries: Gather forces and seek aid from any source to become an independent nation as the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata. We also encourage Chilean and Peruvian revolts.

  • Holland Response: We will aid Argentina for some land.
  • Argentine Diplomacy: We could offer some form of trade agreement instead?
  • Holland Dip: I will give you 3000 guns for 300 px of land.
    • It's not realistic for my nation seeking independence to give up land.
    • Then we will aid Spain.

Inspired by Argentina: Columbia, Mexico and Chile declare independence.

The Netherlands: The Dutch expanded 100 px into Madagascar and built the port city of Noordpunt. The Dutch condemned the independence of Argentina, Columbia, Mexico and Chile. They soon sent two ships to blockade Chilean ports. The Dutch asked Japan if they wanted to have a royal wedding and asked if they wanted to trade guns for food. Meanwhile, Lutheranism is now the nation's official faith and they also banned Islam.

  • Japanese response: We do not wish for the Imperial Family to mix with other royals at this time, and we prefer for the Family to remain purely Japanese. As such, we decline the Netherlands' offer to wed one of their royals with one of ours. Also, we do not need food, nor do we have the guns to spare, so we are afraid that such a trade agreement would be impractical at this time.
  • Sicilian Diplomacy: We agree to the Netherland's request of forming trade routes between our nations.

Empire of Japan

  • Japanese expansion: The Empire continues to expand into Karafuto, establishing new colonies all along the coasts of the island. Karafuto Prefecture expands by 50 px to the north.
  • Japanese infrastructure: Expansion of Edō is now 50% complete.
  • Japanese military: With the completion of all current naval construction of projects within reach, the Imperial Japanese Navy orders the construction of 100 ironclads, 200 brigs, 80 frigates, 20 men-of-war, 200 schooners and 300 gunboats. The Nagasaki Yotetsusho, as well as other shipyards across Japan, are expanded to accommodate this order. The new orders are due to replace the rest of the Red Seal Ships currently in service. This mass order, known as the Kantai Kakuchō (艦隊拡張 — Fleet Expansion) is part of Shogun Tokugawa Ienari's plan of rapid militarisation and modernisation, and this phase of expansion is slated to last up to ten years with all shipyards working at maximum capacity.
  • U.S Dip: We agree to sell railroad technology to Japan. Please wait for two turns.

Sicily: Construction on the railroad system begins. In our new academies we begin experimenting to find a better replacement for our dated weaponry, as well as our cannons. New housing is built in Palermo and Catania to meet the needs of a growing Sicilian population.

  • Nuova Catania: Infrastructure and military are improved. More houses and buildings are constructed, while a small amount of troops are sent from the homeland to add to the new colony's defenses. Explores began limited exploration along the OTL Konkoure River, though it is quite dangerous due to a rocky underground and steep cliffs.

United States of America: As Florida, Louisiana, the North, and West continue with their economic booms, the South falls into stagnation due to the rising usage of slavery. There are talks as to whether ban slavery again in order to improve the South's situation, but this causes unrest with the slave owners. In the meantime, more businesses spring up and the ideology of capitalism grips the state. Trading posts are built in Akao-To and Saint Barthelemy. Improvement of the army and navy continue as the navy is up to 400 ships, half of which are ironclads, and 25% or which are steam-powered ships. The army rises to 425,000 men. Research on cannons and muskets continue. Our Colonists land in OTL Brisbane in Northeast Australia. The scientists with them immediately discover the thriving fauna and wildlife in the area. The leader of the colonists wants to send back one ship to the mainland to request for more people to immediately settle the spot. We expand by 100 px to the West.

  • Liberia: Economy and infrastructure are improved. We expand by 100 px.
  • Japanese Dip: We inform the United States of the presence of natives on the continent, and express hope that American settlers will coexist peacefully with the Aboriginals and that the indigenous peoples of Australia will not share the same fate as the Native Americans.

Serbia: Continues to advance into the Ottoman Empire alongside the Austrians, and Serbian troops are greeted as liberators.  

Archduchy of Austria: We keep advancing into the Ottoman Empire. Initial successes raise morale even higher, as we help liberate the peoples under Ottoman Muslim tyranny. Meanwhile in the Archduchy itself, infrastructure is improved.

  • Kingdom of Hungary: Economy is improved.
  • Kingdom of Bohemia: Infrastructure is improved.
  • Kingdom of Croatia: Economy is improved.

Kingdom of Naples: Infrastructure and military turn. The Papal States are annexed by Naples and diplomats are sent to the Italian Republic to ask the fledgling nation to be annexed by Naples, high autonomy promised. Meanwhile, we look at the Balkan War with interest, though unless Serbia asks for aid we will not declare war.

United States of America: We settle our first colony in the Australian continent. The colony is named Terranova. We meet a native who speaks both English and the local language and offer him to be the official translator of the Terranova colony. We improve economy and military (as I have no time for long turns) Expands west by 100 px

  • Liberia: Expands by 100 px. Infrastructure and economy are improved.
  • MOD: No, Maori is the language of the native New Zealanders. Australians speak a myriad of Aboriginal languages, depending on the native language. I have modified your statement to compensate.

The Netherlands: We expand 100 px into Madagascar. Meanwhile, A group of Dutch colonists landed In OTL Port Augusta where they find a native that speaks both Dutch and the local language, he shows them around, the leader says this land belongs to Holland and they begin setttle the town of New Amsterdam.

  • MOD: The Netherlands establishing a colony in Australia is highly unlikely, as they already surveyed the continent a few centuries back and determined that colonisation wasn't worth it. I doubt that they would change their minds. Also, if anything, the Aboriginals would only be able to speak English as a second language as only English-speaking countries (US and UK) have ever made contact with the Aboriginals.

Sicily: Construction on infrastructure everywhere continues, especially the railroad connecting Palermo to Catania, as a national railway would be the transition of goods and troops much easier and faster. Work in our academies to upgrade our weaponry continues, and Parliament is on the look out for any scientific minds to help. An offer is sent to scientist Amedeo Avogadro to leave the French-dominated Italian Republic and instead work for the Sicilian government (MOD answer please).

  • Nuova Catania: The colony is expanded to include the entirety of Tombo Island. Our infrastructure and economy are improved.

With the revolts in South America against the Spanish government becoming ever more volatile, the Spanish military finds it increasingly more difficult to put down the independence movements. The King considers grants the colonies semi-autonomy.

Empire of Japan

  • Japanese Expansion: The Japanese, alarmed by the rate of Chinese expansion into the Amur region, creates many new colonies along the coast of the Amur region and begins pushing westward. We also expand north into Karafuto by 100 px. Japan requests to purchase the Philippines from Spain.
    • RNG: 6 (6 — 10: Agree). Spain agrees to cede the Philippines to the Empire of Japan for 20 million US dollars. Japan accepts. Spanish forces begin to pull out of the Philippines and the Japanese Army moves into former Spanish military installations. The 2nd Fleet of the Imperial Navy is posted to the new Tennō-shoto Prefecture (天皇諸島県 Tennō-shoto Ken, Emperor's Islands). Japanese citizenship is offered to all remaining Spanish colonists who wish to stay. Otherwise, free transport via the Senkaku Islands to New Spain is provided to those wanting to return to Spanish territory.
  • Japanese Dip: The Japanese proposes to the United States to assist the colony of Terranova due to its proximity to the home islands.
  • Infrastructure: Japan's first railway between Edo and Kyoto is now under construction. The Edo-Kyoto Line is part of the Shogun's ambitious plan to have all of mainland Japan's major cities connected by rail.
  • The Shogun authorises the creation and use of a western-style coat of arms for official purposes, replacing the Tokugawa family crest.
  • Japanese military: Plans for the Yamato-class ironclad are complete, and construction of the first two of this class, the IJS Yamato and Akikaze, has begun. The new Yamato is due to replace the 1st Fleet Yamato (the first brig) as the Navy's flagship in 1813.

United States: Economy and military improve. We send more colonists to Terranova and ask the Japanese to trade with the outpost (No time for long posts again) Expands 100 px west

  • Liberia: Economy and infrastructure improve. Expands by 100 px
  • Terranova: Economy and infrastructure improve. Expands by 10 px
  • Japanese Response: The Empire agrees to a trade route with Terranova. We also propose Japanese military presence to help defend the colony in the absence of an accessible American military force at this time. We propose to deploy the IJS Nagasaki and IJS Teikoku as well as the 5th Army's 2nd Battalion to Terranova to establish a Japanese military base on Terranovan territory.
  • American Response: We agree, provided that the aboriginals and the exotic wildlife are not to be harmed. The United States is indebted to Japan for this gesture.

'Kingdom of Naples: Infrastructure and military turn. King Ferdinand IV, following a breakdown in negotiations with the Italian Republic, accuses them of still being a puppet of France. Both nations engage in an arms race. Many troops are deployed to the border ready to invade at a moment's notice. Meanwhile, the navy begins to patrol the Mediterranean close to the Ottoman Empire.

Unsatisfied, the revolutionaries in Spain's colonies continue to become ever more violent. The King decides to grant independence to Mexico, where the movements are strongest. This angers the other colonies whose independence ia still not recognised. Spanish troops in Mexico have the choice of joining the Mexican Army or returning to Spain.

Empire of Japan

  • Japanese military: We continue to expand and modernise our military, seeking designs for better and better weaponry and means of transport. Our troops arrive in Terranova and begin the construction of the IJNF Shintenchi (新天地 — New world), which will be Japan's Australian military headquarters until a colony in Australia can be founded. Also, plans for the Fuyukaze-class frigate are complete, and construction of twin ships IJS Fuyukaze and Ryōshi is begun in Edo Imperial Shipyard.
  • Japanese infrastructure: We are considering another ambitious plan to build a large bridge over the Sea of Japan between Karafuto and Amur to connect our colonies in the Amur Region to mainland Japan. Meanwhile, the railway between Edo and Kyoto is now 20% complete. More ports and shipyards are built across Japan. We also open new university campuses in Kyoto, Nagasaki and Osaka. In an effort to make Edo more culturally important, a new conservatoire is under construction. Musicians from around the world are invited to come work at this new establishment.
  • Japanese expansion: We continue to expand increasingly aggressively. We expand into the Amur region westward by 200 px, and north into Karafuto by 200 px.
  • Tennō-shoto: We expand the existing towns on Tennō-shoto to accommodate the influx of Japanese settlers. New schools are opened all across the archipelago.
  • The Government reevaluates the possibility of establishing an Australian colony. It is proposed that ships use Tennō-shoto and potential future colonies in OTL Indonesia as springboards to the OTL Kimberley region, where we can settle a colony such that Terranova's expansion will remain undisturbed.

Ottoman Empire: The Ottoman Empire continues to improve its economy, infrastructure and build up its military, mainly the army and navy. Sunni Islam rises in popularity in Ottoman Asia, while Christianity rises in popularity in Ottoman Europe and more churches are built. As Selim III continuing his reign as sultan and looking to establish closer economic partnership with various European states to grow the nation into the major worldwide power, the Ottoman Empire continues to westernize and population continues to grow by adding 100,000 people every year. The population of Ottoman Empire now stands at 21.4 million people. The Ottoman army finished pushing back the Serbians and Austrian from occupying these Ottoman territories, setting up. More barracks and armories are built, while few docks and mosques are built. More ships are built and activated into Ottoman Navy. The Ottoman Empire expands into the Sahara Desert by 500 px, with a few new cities built and roads built between old and new cities. Mahmud II continues to plan new reforms for the Ottoman Empire and continues heavily investing in technology and science.

United States of America: We declare war on newly-independent Mexico, citing the belief that the nation will eventually turn hostile against the United States, and the wish to secure a Pacific Border and dominance of the North American continent. 300,000 soldiers move into OTL Texas and portions of Northern Mexico to engage the country, while the formidable navy begins a blockade of the Mexican Atlantic Coast and bombards the coast. 3000 cavalrymen also do raids on the border. Our plan is to defeat Mexico and gain the OTL Areas of Texas, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Baja California, and all of Mexico north of the area, but our government decries the annexation of all of Mexico. An amphibious landing force of 30,000 men is set up in New Orleans and ordered to take the Yucatan peninsula, the men are also supported by navy ships. Any Spanish citizens wishing to become Americans or return to their mainland will be respected by the U.S, and given free transportation back to Spain. Conscription is enacted while Martial Law is also enacted on states bordering Mexico. The military is heavily improved because of the war as military production ramps up and more cannons are built. Industrial capabilities of the United States grow at a breakneck as the National Railway is focused on reaching the Mexico border to transport troops faster to the warfront, while areas nearby are reinforced with infrastructure to withstand an unlikely Mexican counterattack. We expand Westward by 100 px.   • Colony of Liberia: We expand our borders by 100 px. A volunteer force of 1000 men head back into the mainland to support the U.S  Economy continues to improve as Liberia becomes a manufacturing powerhouse due to the amount of factories churning up products made from materials already in the country. More farms, mines, and plantations are built while the railway expands to 59% of the country. The port of Liberty expands while the city itself also expands to accommodate enough people (Infra/eco)
  • Terranova: Expands by 25 px. More colonists enter the area to establish a formal outpost to signify American presence in the continent. The first houses are built while a 20-man defense force is organized. We continue to negotiate with the Natives to ensure peace. (mil/infra)
  • Japan: The Empire fully supports the United States in its quest for hegemony of Central America and, while we do not want to enter the war at this time, we send financial support to the US Government, with regards from His Imperial Majesty the Emperor.
  • Morocco: We continue developing our infrastructure. We look to modernize and westernize to become more like Europeans.

United kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: The UK continues to develop its economy, already on of the largest in the world. Our main industry are farming, manufacturing, trading, and various other jobs. seeing Spain as a threat, we declare war on Spain. Troops are sent in an amphibious landing against the nation, hoping to make as much gain as possible. in light of attacking Spain, we improve our military and navy, with a total of 600,000 soldiers in the army, and 500 or more ships in the navy. Sicily: Construction on railroads continues. Avogadro is given funds and sent to work in the military academy in Palermo to improve our weaponry and cannons.

  • Nuova Catania: Economy/infrastructure.

Kingdom of Naples: Economic and military turn. During a patrol of the Ottoman borders, a small amount of Neapolitan ships accidentally wanders into the waters of the Italian Republic. Fearing this is an attack, the ships are attacked and destroyed by the Italian navy. King Ferdinand is outraged and declares war on the Italian Republic for the attack. Naval patrolling of the Eastern Mediterranean end and all ships are called to help. Diplomats are sent to Sicily to ask for help. Meanwhile, war taxes are introduced.

Mexico is losing the war against the United States. Spanish troops begin to position themselves at the border between Mexico and Spanish territories, preparing for an American attack upon the South American continent. Meanwhile, revolts in Argentina become ever more violent.

Japan's rapid modernisation and expansion surprises and impresses the world.

  • Empire of Japan: We establish new colonies in Indonesia as part of the strategy to island-hop to the Kimberley region of Australia. We also mobilise our military and demand that the Kingdom of Great Joseon immediately surrenders to Japanese control.

Sikh Empire: After a dream of our emperor, we begin to prepare for a modernisation campaign. We begin arming our army with advanced guns and multiple Sikh temples are built.

  • Sikh Diplomacy: We contact UK and Japan and ask for help for industrialisation and modernisation.
  • Japanese response: We agree to assist the Sikh Empire modernise and industrialise, in return for a naval base on the Indian Ocean after Sikh conquest of the Durrani Empire.

United States of America: We continue the war with Mexico, and conscript an additional 50,000 men, who are immediately sent to the front. (BTW, I have the UK's support, if someone's gonna make an algo). More soldiers are trained to assist in the Mexican-American War, which is seen as a move to consolidate the United State's dominance over the Central American region and gain a Pacific Coast. We hasten the construction of several ironclads and frigates, while more cannons are made and more horses are domesticated for combat use. Korea surrenders unconditionally to Japan after Japanese forces capture the capital of Hanseong. The Treaty of Sapporo is signed, ending the Korea-Japanese War. The Treaty, while it maintains that Korea will be nominally independent, the Joseon dynasty is ended and replaced with the Korean Empire, a Japanese puppet state which has the Emperor of Japan as its head of state.

Empire of Japan: Japan rejoices as we achieve victory over the Koreans after six months of war. We improve our infrastructure and economy. We expand into Karafuto by 200 px and into the Amur region by 250 px. The IJS Fuyukaze and Ryōshi are now complete and in service. Infrastructure is improved as more universities, homes and suburban areas are built while the top ten largest cities and ports are expanded. Military improvement continues as we build the first rifle, exceeding the expectations of the government. Incoming soldiers to the war are armed with it. More ships are built and soldiers conscripted. We expand 150 px west.

  • Military: We continue the Kantai Kakuchō program. As of this time we have 80 brigs, seven men-of-war, 120 schooners and 180 gunboats. We also now possess 52 ironclads. The program is praised as a success.
  • Infrastructure: The Empire continues to improve and expand its rail system, initiating construction of a Trans-Tennō-shoto Railway. We also begin the expansion of Tennō-shoto's road system.
  • Expansion: We expand into Sakhalin by 200 px, and into the Amur region by 300 px. We also annex parts of Korea directly into the Japanese Empire. Expand by 100 px from the south into the Korean peninsula.

Unfortunately, largely due to inactivity and lack of the ability to maintain this map game, I have decided to also retire from this game. As such, Treaty of Amiens is now defunct.
