Alternative History

The Treaty of Dijon is a treaty signed by the governments of the United Kingdom of Great Iberia and the Duchy of Burgundy ending the Iberio-Portuguese War of 1461.

Peace terms[]

  • Hostilities between the Kingdom of Portugal and the United Kingdom of Great Iberia shall cease.
  • Hostilities between the Kingdom of Portugal and the Duchy of Burgundy shall cease.
  • The King of Portugal shall renounce his rights to the Throne of Portugal and abdicate in favour of Fernando of Eca
  • The Kingdom of Portugal shall join with the United Kingdom of Great Iberia; Fernando's first child shall wed a child of Sancho and Eleanor. If Fernando bears a daughter, then she shall wed Ferdinand. If he bears a son, then any future daughter of Sancho and Eleanor shall wed with Fernando's son.
  • All Portuguese military and government assets shall become the property of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Iberia.
  • Until the kingdoms are fully united, Fernando of Eca, as well as any children he bears, will swear loyalty to Castile.
  • In the event that he dies before he and his wife can bear child, Fernando will name Crown Prince Ferdinand as next in line for the Portuguese throne. However, if Fernando and his wife bear a male, then that child shall be placed before Crown Prince Ferdinand in line of succession to the Portuguese Throne.
  • Castile and Aragon will agree to assist in maintaining order within Portugal so long as it remains with in the bounds of this treaty.
  • If at any point in the future, there is no clear heir to the throne of Portugal, the incumbent monarch of Iberia will be crowned monarch of Portugal.
  • The Duchy of Burgundy shall receive the Azores Islands and free access to all Iberian ports for a period of 50 years. Iberia will receive basing rights within the Azores.
