The Treaty of Madrid was a formal document drafted between the years of 1537 though 1539 to end the Franco-Iberian War, the Spanish Civil War and the Abbasid Conquest of Morocco. This treaty, which went through numerous drafts, was finalized in 1539 and signed in the former Iberian capital of Madrid. This treaty is most notable for being the end of Spanish power in Spain and resulting in an era of unprecedented power by France and Portugal in Western Europe. The war caused economic calamity in the Mediterranean and was one of the major stepping stones toward the abandonment of feudalism.
