The Treaty of Vienna was a truce made by the two main belligerents in the Belkan Civil War, namely the Slavist Belkan Government and the Greek Federation. After fighting one of the bloodiest conflicts in human history over the course of five and a half years, the two rival governments settled on an armistice to temporarily end their fighting. This was largely caused by the civil conflicts taking place in both nations: the attempted military coup in the Greek Federation, and the religious revolt of the Extremist Unitarian sect known as the Holy State of Croatia and Serbia. The exact event that proved the final catalyst for peace was the Greek victory at Tirana, re-installing the exiled Albanian government. The two governments sent representatives to Vienna, Austria, being a neutral power, and signed the truce on August 19, 1844.
