Trindade ("Trinity"), officially known as the Autonomous City of Trindade, is the administrative capital of Brazil, where the presidency is located. The city was founded in 1711, and was one of the main areas of the Brazilian Gold Rush. It was selected as the capital city of Brazil by the Council of Ministers, mostly due to the localization, and the historical relevance of the city, since the Minas Gerais Movement begun there. It is the only city that the president acts as mayor, and the mayor has the name of Protector.
The city was initially named "Vila Rica", but after the War of Independence, the city was renamed Trindade. The name has two meanings, similarly to the national flag: the Holy Trinity, but it can also means the revolutionary ideals based on the French Revolution: Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.
