The Tsarist Party of Russia (Russian: Царская партия России, tr. Tsarskaya partiya Rossii), commonly shortened to just the Tsarist Party, was an
illegal political party founded by Dmitri Pavlovich Romanov that sought to restore the monarchy in Russia. Founded in 1939, the party gained quite a bit of popularity throughout the Soviet Union, especially in the Ukrainian SSR and far-east Russia. The Tsarist Party was instrumental in the downfall of the Soviet Union in 1943, as most Soviet soldiers had grown sympathetic to Dmitri and his party and, in the last few weeks, refused to retaliate against the Tsarists. After the Tsarists had full control of the now-collapsed Soviet Union, Dmitri disbanded the party five days later. Its successor, the Tsar's Constitutional Monarchy Party, would essentially carry on the duties of the Tsarist Party. Its military branch, the White Army, fought against the Soviets and the Allies during World War II.
The Tsarist Party had mixed reactions towards the Nazi Party of the German Reich. Some viewed them as an unacceptable evil, and some viewed them as a necessary ally that must be worked with to restore the monarchy. As for Dmitri, he viewed the Germans as a disgraceful people, and only in private did he write his intentions of destroying the Reich after the empire was reformed. On the other hand, the Germans viewed the Tsarists in a positive light. Some speculate this was because both of them shared a common enemy, the Soviets. As a result of the Tsarist Party's cooperation with the Germans, the Allies despised them.
The Japanese were not on exactly the best terms with the Russians either, most likely due to Dmitri's known disapproval of the Japanese performance in the Second World War. Overall, many historians agree that the Tsarist Party forever changed history. It restored a monarchy, assisted in the complete takeover of Europe with the assistance of Germany, and then restored Europe only a year later. A monument to Dmitri I and the Tsarist Party rests in Petrograd.
