Tulga was King of Spain and nominal Western Roman Emperor from 721 to 745. The eldest son of Ardo, he ruled directly only over the Gothic-Spanish territories of the realm, though as emperor he also had a claim to supremacy over the lands awarded to his siblings in Italy, Africa and Burgundy. He rarely exercised this power, however, so that as his reign progressed the kingdoms drifted apart to become effectively independent.
Early on he installed his own son, Theoderic I, as junior king and heir to the throne. Theoderic however died in a hunting accident just weeks before Tulga, so that ultimately the king was succeeded by his second son, Amalric II.
