Tunisia still enjoys peace during early World War II, although some natives are discontent with this situation. There's the Islamic Destour, but some years ago, the secular Néo-Destour under Habib Bourguiba split off, which went to the Underground.

Sidi Ahmed II is the Bey of Tunis, but the French government - represented by Eirik Labonne - controls Tunisia's foreign affairs, finances, and maintains the right to station military troops within its territory. Three infantry regiments were sent there.

About 250,000 French settlers (or colons) are living in the small country, but there are also around 100,000 Italians (plus 13,000 Maltesians) - a reason for disagreement since France took over. To be on the safe side, they built the Mareth Line from 1936 to 1939, to defend against Italian Libya.
