He is widely considered one of the most influential rappers of all times. Shakur is among the best-selling music artists, having sold more than 93 million records worldwide. Biography[]

Early life[]

Shakur was born in New York City. Raised by his mother, he relocated to Baltimore in 1984 and to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988.

Career[]

With the release of his debut album 2Pacalypse Now in 1991, he became a central figure in the West Coast hip-hop scene for his conscious and aggressive rap lyrics. Shakur achieved further critical and commercial success with his follow-up album Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z... (1993). In addition to his music career, Shakur also found considerable success as an actor, with his starring roles in Juice (1992), Poetic Justice (1993), Above the Rim (1994) and many others.

In 2000, Shakur released the acclaimed triple album Forgiveness, influenced by the murder of fellow collaborator and rapper Dr. Dre and referred to by critics as setting a new standard for hip-hop. Shakur continued to release albums into the 2000s, beginning a brief partnership with the Notorious B.I.G. but took a hiatus in 2009 to pursue an acting career. In 2017, he unexpectedly released a new album, Unconditional Surrender, and resumed touring. He subsequently turned down a Marvel role to play Black Panther and gave it to the late Chadwick Bosemen.
