Turkmenistan, officially the Republic of Turkmenistan, is a country in Central Asia bounded by the Caspian Sea on the west. It borders Russia to the northeast, Uzbekistan to the north, East Persia to the south and West Persia to the south east.
Turkmenistan has a population of over 5 million inhabitants, being the 23rd-most populous country in Asia and the 81st in the world. It has a surface area of 491,000 square kilometers, making it the 11th-largest country in Asia and the 49th-largest in the world.
