Tuvalu is an insular country in the Pacific Ocean. Its capital and largest city is Funafuti and it is one of the seven Commonwealth realms. It is also a member of the League of Nations and the Oceania Union. With just over 10,200 inhabitants and a surface area of only 26 square kilometers, it is the least-populous and second-smallest country in the world.
Politics[]
The politics of Tuvalu take place within a framework of a unitary, parliamentary, representative democratic monarchy, in which the head of State is the monarch who appoints the Governor General as vice-regal representative. The current monarch, Richard V, reigns under the official title of King of Tuvalu, having served in that position since he ascended the throne in 2014.
The unicameral Parliament is responsible for passing laws, adopting the state's budgets, and exercising control of the executive government.
