After the death of King Harold at the Battle of Hastings, William's army marched for London, but were cut in two by a rearmed English army made from the remnants of Harold’s army; following this, William's army retreated back to the English coast, and started to rebuild some destroyed forts.This wold be the beginning of the Five year French-English war
