The Seventh Fleet is a numbered fleet (a military formation) of the United States Navy. It is headquartered at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, in Yokosuka, Japan, with some units based in Japan and the Republic of Korea. It is part of the United States Pacific Fleet.
Its principal responsibilities are to provide joint command in natural disaster or military operations and operational command of all naval forces in the region.
History[]
The U.S. 7th Fleet saw action in the Asia-Pacific front of World War III, engaging Soviet, Chinese and North Korean naval vessels. The 7th Fleet was stationed in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Guam, responsible for the defense of these areas. The presence of superior naval power in the Pacific Ocean made the area roughly uncontested to the United States, which was supported by their allies.
