History
Central Asia communist resurgence
On 7 May 2019, the Kazakh Provisional Government - formed by the ouster of Nursultan Nazarbaev as Kazakh president in 2017 - was overthrown in a coup d'etat led by the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan (CPPK) and backed by the Kazakh military. CPPK Leader Vladislav Kosarev declared himself Premier of the "Socialist Republic of Kazakhstan" that same day. Over the following months, similar coups took place in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. The West naturally suspected Chinese interference.
2019 Siberian Uprising
On 12 September 2019, Siberia unilaterally declared independence from the Russian Confederation. Communist Party member Pavel Grudinin proclaimed himself President of the newly formed "Republic of Siberia". The Russian Confederation denounced the separatist actions and condemned the People's Republic of China for disrupting the sovereignty of Russia through clandestine means. Gennady Zyuganov - General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Russian Confederation - disavowed the actions of Pavel Grudinin and expelled him from the Communist Party.
Union Treaty of 2019
The Treaty on the Creation of the Union of Socialist Siberian Republics was signed by Siberia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan on 17 September 2017. The self-proclaimed country isn't recognized by the Russian Confederation nor the West. Only the People's Republic of China and a handful of other countries recognize the new USSR. Pavel Grudinin declared himself President while Vladislav Kosarev became Premier. The capital city was set up in Krasnoyarsk.
Russian crackdown of Siberian separatists
Concerned that the recent Communist resurgence would destabilize post-war Russia and lead to a resumption of hostilities, NATO granted Russian President Ksenia Sobchak the green light to retake Siberia from the separatists but reminds her not to invade Kazakhstan due to the terms of the Armistice of 25 April 2017 prohibiting Russian military activity outside its borders. The United States launched air strikes, cruise missile strikes, and special operations raids against separatist strongholds throughout Siberia while the Russian Confederation handled the majority of the ground combat. Special attention was paid to the southern Russian Far East with Russian troops securing Vladivostok and remainder the region just in case the Chinese had any thoughts of taking advantage of the situation to reclaim "Outer Manchuria" which the Qing Dynasty forfeited to the Russian Empire in the 19th century. Another priority for the Russian military was making sure all Strategic Missile Forces bases with the United States vowing to take preemptive action should any be compromised.
On the evening of 10 October 2017, US Special Forces and Russian Spetsnaz in a joint operation raided the Krasnoyarsk City Hall which had become the center of government for the self-proclaimed Socialist Union. President Pavel Grudinin, Premier Vladislav Kosarev, and other key officials were apprehended and several separatist soldiers were killed. Having lost its leadership, the separatists lost their initiative and were rapidly losing ground throughout Siberia. Much of the population had also turned against the self-proclaimed USSR. One week following the raid, Russian ground forces retook Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk. It was clear to most observers that Siberia was lost with remaining separatist forces either retreating to Central Asia or trapped within isolated pockets of resistance.
Chinese deployment to Central Asia
Zhambyl Akhmetbekov proclaimed himself Acting Premier and announced that the Socialist Union capital would be temporarily relocated to Almaty, Kazakhstan until the situation in Siberia improved. Akhmetbekov also requested Chinese military aid in helping to maintain control over Central Asia and to prevent a complete collapse of the new USSR. Due to the mandate limiting the military crackdown of the Socialist Union strictly to Siberia as well as the People's Republic of China vowing to defend Central Asia from invasion, it is very likely that the self-proclaimed country will be around for a while.
