The Union of West American States (U.W.A.S or UWAS), colloquially known as West America, is a country located in North America. It consists of six states; California, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado and Utah. It shares land borders with Canada to the north, the Republic of Viacom to the east, and Mexico to the south. The seal of the UWAS is derived from Nevada's former seal when it was a state of the United States of America. The national capital is Springfield, located in the state of Oregon, while the nation's largest city and financial center is Los Angeles in the state of California.
While Canada succeeds the former United States of America in terms of some geography and superpower status, with Viacom succeeding the United States in terms of geography alone, the Union of West American States is the closest nation to succeed the United States in terms of spirit, complete with the union being formed from a revolution to rebel against a more powerful nation state. Despite this, the member states of the UWAS during their time in the former United States of America, especially California, had a vastly different culture and different laws compared to the rest of the United States, and thus the general public seldom recognizes the UWAS as a legitimate successor to the former United States.
Further increasing doubt for the idea that the UWAS is an appropriate successor to the former United States is that the UWAS is primarily governed by the state of California. Additionally, UWAS law is primarily based on Californian state law as of 1990, lacking any amendments to account for Oregon and Nevada.
The current president of the UOWAS is Bernie Sanders.
The UWAS is a part of NATO, the United Nations and NAFTA. The former makes the UWAS infamous for being the only state within NATO not to be located anywhere near the Atlantic Ocean.
Etymology[]
The UOWAS' name comes from the full name of the United States, which was the United States of America. America is the female form of the Latin "Americus", meaning "Amerigo", after Amerigo Vespucci, so the UOWAS is literally "Union of West Amerigonian States", "West Amerigo", or any number of combinations.
History[]
The three founding states in the UWAS were once states of the United States before the Second American Civil War and Viacom taking over the United States. However, once Viacom took over the US, Oregonians, Californians and Nevadans were oppressed just like the other Americans after Viacom took over. So, the three groups had a plan. They were going to secede. This sounded crazy to many, however, they had a union plan. A union ... of West American states. And, they had supporters, too. Including militia support, with many soldiers willing to fight for West America. So then, on July 6, 1992, the Union of West American States declared independence. When it reached Viacom on July 7, Viacom declined the independence. They didn't want any secessionist states trying to leave Viacom's wrath. However, the West Americans did not give up. They didn't want to live with the 'aggressive capitalism' (read; oligarchic dictatorship) of Viacom, and didn't want to live with segregation (which should have ended after World War II) between white and "coloured" people either. So then ...
West American Revolution[]
Main article: West American Revolution
... the West American Revolution started. The West Americans attacked Viacomese bases in Texas, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, among others. Arizona and New Mexico were the most devastated from the attacks, and it was highly anticipated that Arizona and New Mexico would join the UOWAS with Oregon, California and Nevada. However, the two "lost West American States" had, obviously, not ended up being able to join. As a result of the revolution, many had less fear in Viacom because a small group of random people had successfully (if only with two highly anticipated regions lost to Viacom) seceded from the United States (under control from Viacom). Another effect is that the United States had been dissolved entirely, in favor of the Republic of Viacom.
Geography[]
The Union of West American States is roughly 372,654 square miles large across its three states. It resides in two time zones; the Mountain Time Zone, and the Pacific Time Zone.
Demographics[]
The demographics of the UWAS are very diverse, including multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Government, Law and Politics[]
Political divisions[]
The Union of West American States is divided into three states. The states themselves can also be divided into counties and metropolitan areas.
Proposals[]
There have been a few proposals for new states in West America, including, but not limited to:
West American Law[]
West American law is law in the Union of West American States. It seldom borrows from the former United States law, instead aligning more closely with Californian law during its status as a U.S state in 1990.
Flag Legality[]
Flying nation flags in the Union of West American States that are not the national flag, by law, requires a permit to fly the given flag, with the alternative being a $75 fine. However, certain flags have been declared entirely illegal to fly in the UWAS in the past, for one reason or another.
The act of banning flags violates the constitution of the former United States, specifically the First Amendment to the United States Constitution; the act of flying a flag representing a foreign nation state and/or ideology, for example, was considered to be free speech by the former United States, even if said flag was of an adversary. By declaring the following flags to be illegal to fly in the UWAS, many in the general public view the UWAS as being anti-free speech.
Viacom[]
Any flag relating to Viacom in some form (such as the Viacomese Empire or the current Republic of Viacom) that is flown in any area of the UWAS will have the flier be sentenced to life in prison for "displaying pride for a nation state which introduced prominent oppression of the West American peoples".
The Viacomese flags are also labelled as a 'symbol of white supremacy', as outlined in the Union of West American States' constitution.
Confederate States of America[]
The infamous Confederate battle jack or any flag using any form of it (such as the former US state of Georgia's flag) is illegal to fly in West America for similar reasons to the Viacom flags. This additionally extends to the original 1861 'Stars and Bars' Confederate flag.
United States of America[]
All forms of the 'Stars and Stripes' national flag of the former United States of America were declared illegal to be flown within the UWAS on December 7th, 2014. The reasoning for this ban was stated to be due to the flag 'representing colonization and white supremacy'. This ban quickly cemented itself as the most infamous item to be illegalized within the UWAS, and further discredited any idea that the UWAS was a valid successor state to the former United States of America within the general public.
Culture[]
While the Union of West American States has had some influence from the culture of the former United States, due to being a successor state, many who refer to 'West American Culture' are in reality referring to the culture of California, which has more majorly influenced Oregon and Nevada since the formation of the UWAS on July 6, 1992.
The Walt Disney Company and Screen Gems, famous companies, are headquartered here. Los Angeles has the Hollywood movie industry, which was formerly the largest film industry in the world before 1991. Today, Hollywood is much smaller in size, and much less profitable. Having become very expensive compared to other places in the world, and with a large list of regulations on what can and cannot be produced in Hollywood, Hollywood is viewed with apathy by those in the film industry; the Canadian film industry in Toronto having largely taken its place as the largest film industry.
Foreign relations[]
Main article: Foreign Relations of the Union of West American States
The Union of West American States is not officially recognized by Israel, Morocco, Japan, France, Liberia and the Republic of Viacom. This makes it one of the only countries in North America to receive limited recognition, alongside Texas, Charlotina, Louisiana, and, ironically, Viacom.
