The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom and Britain, was a constitutional monarchy which occupied the British Isles off the coast of Western Europe. Established in 1801 as the unification of the Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland, the United Kingdom would develop into one of the most prominent global empire within the 19th Century. The United Kingdom ceased to exist in 1876, when the kingdom was united Acadia to form the United Britannic Commonwealth. Upon the formation of the United Commonwealth, the British Isles were reorganized into the Commonwealth of Great Britain and Ireland.
