The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was a sovereign state established by the Acts of Union 1800, which unified the Kingdom of Ireland and the Kingdom of Great Britain into a single sovereign state. It ended in 1926 when Ireland gained de-jure independence from the United Kingdom, and the remaining UK reconstituted itself as the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
