The UMC is a defunct economic and political alliance of many communities that formed together to better the lives of their communities and people. The UMC is run by the council of communities and protected by the army of the North Star Republic.
The council of communities, Made up of 2 reprenstives for each of the communities. The council was a mess and had little power other than regulating trade between the communities the real power laid In the hands of the North Star Republic and the oligarchs of Little Falls who control these communities as defacto puppets. abusing them for labor and money. By the 2020's the allince falling apart as the communities begun to look for an end to the exploitation by joining nearby nations like Superior and the USA. After a coup in Little Falls and the expansion of Superior, the North Star Republic was forced to sign the Treaty of Fargo in 2023 to avoid conflict over the region with the US, disbanding the alliance.

The council of the communities is a council between all members of the UMC. Each community has 2 respective who are sent to the UMC's HQ in the Mankato Federal Zone, Mankato. They vote on trade laws and try to settle disputes between communities but as a young journalist, Joesph Sternberg has said, "A council is an act, it has no power or say, it's there to give the communities the sense of representation, while they are exploited for there resources by the richer powers." Many have woken up to this reality as life improves in the NSR and Little Falls, the other communities are dirt poor with horrible living conditions and lack of clean water and began to fight back calling for the treaty of Fargo to be settled as quickly as possible, so they can be liberated from their abusers. The UMC is on the brink of political collapse, only held together by military strength and trade ties that would destroy these communities if they left the alliance before annexation.

The Nation at the very south of the UMC is the most powerful community and the only community recognized by the surrounding nations. It holds all the military strength in the alliance and will replace insubordinate communities governments if seen as necessary. though it is the most free and fair nation and has great living conditions in the cities. It does expect migrant laborers and many families from poorer communities will send someone down south to make money for the family. It is undeniably the leader of the alliance and the regional power protecting from dangerous Militia groups like the Iron Hand and Winter Warriors.
Little Falls[]
Little Falls was a strict oligarchy since 1999 when the rubble was cleared from the river by the prisoners of the North Star Republic, Pre-Democracy. The small town quickly exploited the iron range and built barges to sell getting a monopoly on trade on the Mississippi by creating the Mississippi Free Trade Federation, The town was thriving in wealth while the people of the range suffered. the city replaced the TCs being the First Nation to re-industrialize by making purifiers and smelting iron. The oligarchs destroyed the surrounding communities to accumulate wealth, but the working class got tired of the abuse overthrowing the oligarchs and restoring the rightful government to the city and has begun to base their economy on the resources in the free trade fed not slave labor and abuse.
Wilmer

Wilmer, a city based on agriculture, didn't receive many refugees in the days after doomsday. It had more food than its population could ever need stored and frozen in warehouses. It's food ran out in 1989 and became a starving irradiated nation. It Joined the UMC in 2003, It is an impoverished farming town with a feudal government, which was once a mayoral democracy before the NSR overthrew the mayor in 2003 as he refused to join the UMC. Tough even, with the new dictator in power, It has been in the process of joining the USA since 2018.
Alexandria
Alexandria is a rebuilding tourist town as after doomsday they had no sufficient food supply, and the famine killed 90% of the population. It became part of the UMC in 2010 as an official community with it being a hot spot for outlaws from the USA, Immigrants from the Twin Cities, and Fishermen. It has about 21% of its Pre Doomsday population. It is poor, Filled with crime, contaminated water means they need water purifiers, and the government is a mess. It is called Crime City, because of its large crime rate. Its government is run by gangs with it most likely be integrated into the USA when the nation eventually collapses.
St Cloud []
In Saint Cloud after Doomsday, the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant melted down causing 2/3 of the people in the city to die. The people of the city survived due to good healthcare, stored food, and power from the St. Cloud Hydro-Electric plant. Saint Cloud is a vibrant community, reborn from the ashes of Doomsday, in a Renaissance-like Era, with its own unique culture. It is ruled by a mayoral democracy but was heavily influenced by the Little Falls oligarchs for many years. Its radiation levels had dropped to safe levels in 2013, but it joined the UMC in 2004. St Cloud has reached 43% of its pre-Doomsday population. It Has clean water and power, But radiation from fallout still poses a threat outside the city walls. It plans to become part of the Mississippi Trade Confederation when the great collapse happens and continues to grow.
Brainerd[]
Brainerd was a small city, based on fishing. luckily the water in Brainerd wasn't poisoned like in Alexandria so fishing could go on. With local farms and fishing, a commune was established to make sure rations were equally handed out. The Little Falls elite did not like an anti-capitalist state upstream, so they overthrew the commune. The Commune was the only thing keeping Brainerd from becoming an almost kingdom and now that's what it is. Serf-like workers fish and farm, While richer folk enjoy the little luxury of the north like Radio, Cinema, Sports, and even motor boats. After the Little Falls revolt in 2019, Brainerd was free and was offered annexation by Superior, which they declined with the rich few still influencing the democracy.
Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids became a commune-like Brainerd but unlike Brainerd, they didn't have enough food with a famine killing 72% of the population of the Iron-based town. The Community Joined the UMC in 2003 and was instantly turned into an almost slave state by the oligarchy. After the Little Falls Revolt, The Community has gone back to the old days of the commune as food is scarce and trade is scarcer. They plan to join Superior to have a better life and become propose again.
Economy[]
The economy and currency of the UMC are part of the NSR's Economy using its currency and trade regulations, Which should be controlled by the trade council. They use the system to exploit the UMC's states with the Mississippi Trade Federation. It is how these two powers control these communities and keep them part of this Alliance as they could just block all trade to that community.
Sports[]
In the UMC, sports rivalries are common among communities and are a way to entertain the population. The first teams were from New Ulm and Mankato when citizens began playing Hockey and Baseball in their free time. Seeing this, the governments of New Ulm and Mankato established the Minnesotan Hockey League (MHL) and The Minnesotan Baseball Conference (MBC) in 1993 with both being hits among the population. The City Manger of the Mankato Emergency Government, William Basset, said " I haven't seen my friends and Family so happy since 1983." since then the leagues have expanded. With All 3 leagues and many more teams.

Baseball in Minnesota is the summer sport of choice by the people of Minnesota. The Minnesotan Baseball Conference competes every year to see which 2 teams will compete in that years Summer Showdown. The Teams are broken up into 3 Conferences and the two best Teams in the conference would play each other. There are 3 winners but the winners of Southern and Northern Conferences play each as is tradition. Whoever wins that plays the winner of the central conference. This system is confusing and difficult but no one has fixed it, though many think it should be a two conference sport.

Racing[]
The Brainerd International Raceway was Created Pre-Doomsday for Midwestern Car Races and other car-related events. Today, It still is used for these races, as every 3 months racers from all over Minnesota and other regions of the Midwest and Canada come to the raceway to race. The Races aren't a National Sport, but are Broadcasted on MT! Sports are a large event in the Northern Communities. This was relatively in the background until In 2019, the North American Grand Prix Was held in Brainerd expanding the Raceway and bringing huge economic befits to the area.
