The United Nations (UN) was a pre-Doomsday international organisation that operated mainly on international territory in New York City. Its goals were similar to that of its predecessor, the First League of Nations, and its post-Doomsday successor, the Second League of Nations.

It was created in the aftermath of World War II to replace the first League of Nations since the latter had failed to prevent conflict and rising tensions that lead to the Second World War. The United Nations was created with similar goals to its predecessor, but with an entirely different system - six principles were established, including the Security Council and the General Assembly, with the Security Council being used as a way to prevent tensions from escalating. However, after trying to deescalate the situation during Doomsday, all ministers evacuated the headquarters and the UN was officially disbanded.

It has been portrayed in media after Doomsday as a failed attempt at establishing world peace, an organisation that despite trying to keep the world balanced couldn't prevent the misunderstanding on September 26th 1983 from escalating further.
