The United Nations was an intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to promote peace, stability, and cooperation between all nations. It was formed during the closing days of World War II. It was generally ineffective in preventing warfare with this failure being most apparent during the outbreak of World War III in the early 21st century. During that conflict, the UN was paralyzed due to the Allies and Eastern Powers locking up any votes in the United Nations Security Council. Most voting happened in the General Assembly as a result though there were efforts to allow Ukraine, a founding UN member, to become the true successor to the Soviet Union to deprive Russia of its veto while simultaneously aiming to repealing the 1973 UN resolution thereby allowing Taiwan, aka Republic of China, back in while expelling the People's Republic of China.
