The United Nations is a bi-federation of the United States of America and the Soviets Union ruled by a common executive, the General Secretary, in real union, who was commander in-Chief of both the United States and the Soviet Union. The legislature, the UN Parliament, is made up delegates from the two member states, appointed by the President of the United States and the Premier of the Soviet Union. The General Secretary is elected from the ranks of the delegates, by a simple majority.
While officially not a country, but a continuation of the pre-Impact United Nations, the modern UN is the largest quasi-state in the post-impact world, hosting some 129,314 citizens. Economically the UN is a communist dictatorship, though not formally declared as such. Resource scarcity necessitates a strict internal economy, and while the current General Secretary has declared her intention to eventually allow private enterprise to return, as of yet there is neither practical nor a high demand of the population.
The UN is based in Central America, with its capital in Panama City and most of its population concentrated in the cities and towns of the Mexican Plateau and the Tennessee Valley.
