The United States of America, also known as America, the U.S.A, the U.S., the United States, the States, the U.S. of A., and, historically, Columbia, is a nation in North America consisting of 43 states, 1 federal capital district (Washington, D.C.), and 3 territories.
It is bordered by California to the southwest, Mexico to the southeast, and Canada, Johannberg, and Quebec to the north. It also shares maritime borders with the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the West Indies.
The United States is one of the largest countries by area and population, being fourth in area and third in population. It is also one of the most ethnically diverse nations in the world. Washington, D.C. is the capital, however New York City is the largest city. Other major cities include Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Dallas, Boston, Detroit, and Jacksonville.
Its extremely biodiverse geography make it one of the world's few biodiverse countries, as it has a lot of climates, ranging from semi-arid in the western-central parts, summer-humid in the north, and even Mediterranean in the northwest.
The first people to inhabit the Americas were what would be the indigenous peoples, who migrated from Siberia at least 12,000m years ago. When the Americas were discovered, colonization by various European powers began. The U.S. formed from the British 13 Colonies established in what is now the eastern United States in the American Revolutionary War due to disputes over taxes and political representation. In the 18th century, the United States expanded westward and gained new states. The American Civil War was fought between the north and south, with the north ultimately winning the war. During the [[Great War {Hope of the World)|Great War]], it sided with the Allied Powers. In the Cold War, it was the leader of the capitalist powers and NATO. Nowadays, the United States is a developed country with the world's biggest economy. It is part of the League of Nations and NATO.

Pre-Colonial[]
Before Europeans set foot on the land that is now the United States, it was inhabited by various native groups, examples being the Iroquois Confederacy and Lakota since 15,000 BCE.
Major civilizations in pre-colonial North America include the Aztec Empire, which ruled parts of Mexico throughout history, and, in the modern-day United States, the Mississippian civilizations. These include the Middle and South Appalachian Mississippians, the Oneotans, the Plaquemines, and the Caddoans. The aforementioned Iroquois contained the Cherokee, Mohawk, Cayuga, Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, and, after 1722, the Tuscarora. Other Iroquoian tribes included the Wyandot, or the Huron, Erie, Susquehannock, and the now-former St. Lawrence, named after the St. Lawrence River in present-day Quebec, Canada and the U.S.
Discovery[]
According to the Vinlandian people, the first European to set foot on North America was Leif Eriksson sometime in the 1100s. However, some may argue that it was Giovanni da Verrazzano.
