The United States of America was re-establised in 1976, officially beginning on July 4, the 200th anniversary of the initial Declaration of Independence. The first United States had been dissolved in 1871.

The modern USA is a loose-knit organization. Among other things, it is a free-trade organization. The Congress serves as an international court for the members, and has certain, strictly delimited, powers. Revisions to the Treaty of Union have given the new Congress greater powers. In recent years, there has been talk of a unified currency. Smaller currency unions have already been enacted. The North Carolinan Dollar, for example, was equal to the Virginian dollar, while the South Carolinan dollar was pegged at 20 Georgian pence. Exchange rates have become more stable since the ratification of the Treaty of Union.

Talk of unity grew during the 1940's and 50's, as Virginia lead the rest of the North American nations in opposition to the German and Japanese superpowers. The loose co-operation between the sovereign nations was seen as inefficient in light of the threats from those two superpowers, and by the late 50's, there was already a high degree of unity in foreign policy.
