Zombies and mutants
This is for my timeline on which is basically a expanded universe of The House of the Dead series of light-gun arcade games.

This sandbox article explores the military operation of the Italian Armed Forces, backed by the U.S. and other NATO forces, all while the AMS assisted them in dealing with the creatures that were released by Caleb Goldman.

It would take one week for Venice to be entirely cleared.

It took another nine days for Venice to be fully cleared of the undead. During the reclamation battle, the AMS, Italian military forces and police backed by the U.S. Army, the Royal Air Force, the Special Air Service, and the Naval Infantry of the French Marine Nationale. Over 3,000+ zombies and other mutants were cleared. The clearing operation was mainly a success. Casualties on the human side was minimal. Over 30 police officers and Carabinieri; 25 Italian Army soldiers, 10 Italian Coast Guard personnel, 9 U.S. soldiers, 4 French Naval Infantry, and 1 SAS operative were killed. Several more were wounded but thankfully not from bites. Other deaths were caused by environmental damage such as a collapsed structure or a methane tank that exploded. After the clearing, Venice was slowly repopulated. However, the presence of more police and NATO multinational personnel remained just in case of a resurgence of the outbreak. The headquarters of the DBR Corporation was quarantined and sealed off from the public, only allowing police, Interpol, UN, NATO, AMS, and WHO personnel inside. The authorities that investigated the building managed to obtain some of the research data. It is unknown what became of Caleb Goldman's dead body, some say the AMS handed it over to the U.S. government while others say it was kept somewhere else.

Notably, the incident has opened the possibility of France rejoining NATO after the French came to the aid of Italian forces during the outbreak. The French government is currently negotiating with NATO officials on the process of rejoining the historic alliance. In addition, the Venice Outbreak introduced new legislations about clinical tests in many countries around the world. Meanwhile, in the United States, which has saw roughly three terrorist attacks at home and abroad such as the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, the 1996 Khobar Towers attack, and the 1998 bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania; had announced that they will soon double the deployment of troops to Europe. The Clinton Administration in its final days has announced it will do everything to combat bioterrorism. Notably, while this was occurring, the United States is still currently hunting for Osama bin-Laden, who was the perpetuator of the embassy bombings in August 1998. The Al-Qaeda leader is still at large and was said to have survived the cruise missile strikes in Sudan conducted on the same year.

The incident has also caused the DBR Corporation stock's to plummet worldwide after investors pulled out following the outbreak. The Supreme Court of the U.S. (backed by the Commerce and the Treasury Department), as well as the ICC, have began investigating the company.
