Some things you should know about me.

TheMightyGuns

I AM GUNS THE GLORIOUS, MIGHTY DENIZEN OF THIS WIKI, HE WITH NO APPARENT ABILITY TO SPELL!

I mean, GunsnadGlory, really? 'nad'. Should be 'and'. I don't know.

  1. ITHINKTHEREFOREIAM

Surprisingly enough, I woke up one morning and decided that I exist.

The Mighty Guns is too Glorious (or lazy) to go to source mode and type out his real sig (Dammit, Guns!)

but I am not 1 thought.? Guess I should say we are not 1 thought. After all, are we not just the sum total of our memories? Our Ideas? Our DREAMS?

Of course, when I say I, I mean I. I find it hard to believe many of you exist.

Just kidding. I'm an existential with lots of scientific knowledge. I could be a Matrioshka or Boltzmann or Jupiter brain.

or I could be a hologram on the brane.

I may suffer from too much philosophy on the brain.

2. Vir Prudens Non Contraventum Mingit

Wise men don't piss against the rain. Says it all really. My motto.

New motto! Carpe Diem and you will Carpe Mundum.

3. The Royal Guns (talk) 12:00, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

About my signature: No, I am not suggesting I am royalty, but it is rather a play on a) the fact that arsenal used to be called the Royal Arsenal, and b) my (nickname?) on this wiki is Guns. And really, please don't call me 'Royal Guns'; To my humbly yet benignly conceited persona, it is a little embarrassing. ?

Hence.

  1. I will quote things as often as possible. Come to think about it, I'll quote eveything.
  2. I LOVE PUNS AND QUOTES
  3. ONE YEAR ON THE WIKI! WHOO!

Introduction

It’s 1969, and the Beatles have become a huge international hit. Their success spawns a new generation of rock bands that will become some of the foremost musical group of the 20th century, including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and The Clash.

Flash forward ten years. Some of these bands have declined, but new bands playing new genres of rock replace them. The first British Invasion- a period when music in America was completely dominated by British Rock bands- is over, but the Second is just starting. The Golden age of rock hasn’t ended yet.

Flash forward another 10 years. The Second British invasion is over, but numerous bands are still going strong, and the age of Britpop is just starting, pushing rock music forward once again.

Flash forward yet another 10 years. Britpop is over, and rock is now in a decline. The Strokes briefly revive Rock- but only briefly. The Golden age of Rock music has ended.

What happened? Other eras of music lasted for much longer or at least transitioned into another, similar form of music. Rock, however, just dies out, after a mere 30 years. It isn’t that rock isn’t listened to anymore. It is still listened to, and by sizable audiences. But new music is all either rap or dubstep, pop or electronica. Rock production is going steadily downwards, with fewer and fewer bands surviving. Why did Rock enter it’s decline, and will this decline be permanent- that is, can rock come back, or is that beyond all hope?

Has the age of rock passed on, and why?

and why?

Conclusion

I learned a lot through my I-search essay. I learned that FM Rock had once been a great thing (I didn’t even know it was a thing). I learned that Rock’s musicians are getting older and older, and I learned that those reports about the death of Rock that I had always laughed off over the years were actually true. Rock music is in full decline, and there isn’t anything we can do to stop it.

Throughout this piece, I haven’t really stated my own opinions about Rock music- partially because from the artistic point of view, there is no way I can trump the words of Adrian. Partially again that from the factual basis, I fully agree with all of the sources I found; Rock is no longer the music favorite of the world, and will probably never come back to that lofty title.

The main reason, however, is that I know that it is in decline, but I can’t believe Rock is dead. Almost every single source I found noted that people have claimed that Rock was dead before, only to have it come back. After the ‘80s, Rock was pronounced dead- but then came ‘Britpop’, that sustained it for another decade. Then The Strokes led a revival in the early 2000s, and just recently, the band Imagine Dragons broke on to the music scene with their hit album, Night Visions (the question is if they can stay there). Rock has mainly retreated down to less famous Indie Rock bands, but it can still be revived. I found the reasons for the decline of Rock- but that may not necessarily mean its death.
