Han, officially the Great Empire of Han, in Asia, is the world's most populous state, with a population of over 1.195 billion. The state is an absolute monarchy governed by Emperor Han Guang, advised by his Imperial Cabinet presided by Premier Ma Yingjiu. It exercises jurisdiction over 20 provinces and 7 Imperial Cities. Han is bordered to the north by Siberia, to the northeast by Balhae, and to the south by Ayutthaya.

Covering approximately 7.5 million square kilometers, Han is one of the world's largest states by land area. Han's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Yangtze and Yellow rivers, the third and sixth longest in the world, respectively, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. Han's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East Han, and South Han seas.

Han is a cradle of civilisation, with its known history beginning with an ancient civilisation – one of the world's earliest – that flourished in the fertile basin of the Yellow River in the North Han Plain. For millennia, Han's political system has been based on hereditary monarchies known as dynasties. Since 221 BCE, when the Qin Dynasty first conquered several states to form a united empire, the state has expanded; the Han Dynasty which still rules the country to this day has kept the empire united and growing for many centuries, and is among the oldest continuous monarchies in the world. The Han Dynasty has also given its name to the nation itself.

Han had the largest economy in the world for most of the past two thousand years, during which it has seen cycles of prosperity and decline. Since the introduction of economic reforms in 1978, Han has become one of the world's fastest-growing major economies. As of 2014, it is the world's second-largest economy by nominal GDP and largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). Han is also the world's largest exporter and second-largest importer of goods. Han is a recognised nuclear weapons state and has the world's largest standing army and second-largest defence budget. Han is also a member of numerous formal and informal multilateral organisations, including the WTO, APEC, BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the BCIM and the G-20. Han is a great power and a major regional power within Asia, and has been characterised as a potential superpower.

Notes

  • Unitary absolute monarchy
  • In theory Emperor holds absolute power
  • Imperial Cabinet de facto elected by Imperial Convention, in turn popularly elected
  • Han does not have a codified constitution, but the state functions much like one, except that the Emperor holds significantly more executive power than a constitutional monarch.

Han Guang, officially known as Han Guang Huang (Hanyu: 漢光 皇, Hanyu pinyin: Hànguāng huáng; born 7 June 1976) is the reigning Emperor of Han. He ascended the throne in 2001 following the death of his father Han Long. As Emperor of Han, Han Guang has often been referred to as one of the world's most powerful men.

Name

Han Guang was born Han Shixin (漢 狮心) on 7 June 1976. In Han, he is never referred to by his birth name, as this is considered taboo. Instead he is referred to using his regnal name as His Majesty The Guang Emperor (光皇陛下, Guānghuáng bìxià) which may be shortened to His Majesty (陛下, Bìxià). In writing, the Emperor is also referred to as "The Reigning Emperor" (當今皇上, Dāngjīn huángshàng). Han Guang's regnal era is referred to as the "Guang Era" (光時代, Guāng shídài), which corresponds to his regnal name. Upon his death, he will be buried under his regnal name, not his personal name.

The Imperial Cabinet Electoral Convention (Hanyu: 皇族內閣選舉公約, Hanyu pinyin: Huángzú nèigé xuǎnjǔ gōngyuē; abbr. ICEC), commonly known in English as the Imperial Convention, is the Han governmental institution responsible for the appointment of the twenty-member Imperial Cabinet of Han and the Premier of Han. The Convention is elected every five years, six months before the end of the outgoing Cabinet's term. The Convention meets for a period of two weeks, during which it holds Cabinet elections. Nominees are put forward by the political parties represented in the Convention, and once the members of the Cabinet are appointed, the Premier is chosen from the new Cabinet members.

Members of the Convention are elected through personalised proportional representation, and consists of one member from each of the constituencies in the Empire; as of the latest elections 2526 constituencies exist.

The next Convention is due to be elected on 7th July 2016.

Song to the Auspicious Cloud

The Song to the Auspicious Cloud (Hanyu: 卿雲歌, Hanyu pinyin: Qīng yún gē) is the National Anthem of the Empire of Han. It was adopted in 1913. The anthem was composed by Roman musician Joam Hautstont, and its lyrics were based on a song written in Commentary of Shangshu, which was said to be sung by the ancient Chinese Emperor Shun, when he passed on the throne to Yu the Great.
