Today's mail:

An ordinary fellow, Melvin Harrison just finished his senior year and sent application forms to several colleges. After being accepted into one further away from his home, he also began applying for scholarships.

It was an ordinary mid-August afternoon when Melvin came back home after he spent some time at his grandparents. „Phew, Becky really knows her stuff“ he thought to himself as he reminisced his summer romance, although few would call it one. He put his bags into his room and heard his mother call „Melvin, would you come to the kitchen please?“. He rushed down the stairs while saying „I'm coming!“. He came down the stairs and took a left to the newly-rennovated kitchen in which his mother, Jesse, was preparing a meal as she was planning to entertain her book club tonight. She was just about to cut up the tomatoes as she saw her son „Oh good, you're here. Help me out a bit“ she said as she showed him some groceries she wanted him to unpack. „So, how was it as grandpa Leroy and grandma Lou Anne's?“ she inquired about his time at his father's parent's house, who lived in an even smaller town in Wyoming. „It was good“ he told her „a bit too quiet if you ask me but it was nice to get away from Sacramento for a while...“. His mother cut up the tomatoes and did her cooking as Melvin talked about what he did and whom he met during his time at his grandparents. He mentioned Becky, the lake, that kid Bobo who informed him about the way the town works and how his grandparents were doing. „Oh, I nearly forgot“ his mother said, prompting Mel to say „Yeah?“. She said „something came in the mail today, or atleast your sister told me it did.“. Melvin became curious as it could have been a scholarship which he so longed for. „Well what was it?“ he asked eagerly. His mother looked at him and said „Don't ask me, me and your dad were out this morning so your sister got it. But she said the mailman came just as she was leaving the house so she took it with her.“ Melvin's sister, Jennifer was an average 15-year-old. Nothing important on her mind, she liked going to the mall and thinking she's special. But now she was of interest to him as he knew he has to respond as soon as possible to ensure he gets the scholarship. He interrogated his mom „Where is she now? Where'd she go? With whom is she?“. His mother said „I think she went out with her friends to the mall, probably the usual one.“ Melvin couldn't resist but go outside and find her. „Mom, I'm leaving.“ He said. „Okay honey, but don't eat any junk food there's going to be dinner.“ His mother responded.

Mel went to the closest mall, hoping she'd be in the usual spots where 15-year-olds are. But she wasn't. So he decided to message her.

Where are you?     4:39 P.M.

   At the mall lol y? 4:42 P.M.

Do you have my mail? 4:43 P.M.

Yee i think its in my purse do u need it? 4:45 P.M.

I'm at the mall too, where exactly are you? 4:46 P.M.

im /w stacy and em at the new make-up stand 4:50 P.M.

There is no new make-up stand at the mall 4:50 P.M.

Ya it's in the new one across town lmao 4:56 P.M.

And of course, fate forced him to spend an hour getting to the new mall across town. Mel had little patience left as he simpy wanted his mail today. He was stubborn and impatient in general as a person, so it was no surprise that he acted like this.

He finally got to the new mall and found his sister. She was giggling with her friends and eyeing some boys. Such a basic bitch. „Hey Jen,“ he called her „do you have my mail?“. She noticed him and said „Uhh... Yeah lemme just check my purse.“ And she did, however she couldn't find it. „I thought it was here.“ She looked to the side „Oh right!“ she said. Melvin responded „What do you mean?“, obviously irked. „Well... Mel...“ she chuckled „I forgot I gave the letter to dad when I saw them two coming back home.“. The horror, he spent about an hour and a half on nothing. He groaned and said „Ugh... thanks Jen, see ya later.“ She waved at him and continued her discourse with her friends.

Mel was tired, he had travelled home just today and since then spent his time running around Sacramento looking for his letter. Luckily, he knew that his father, Richard, was probably at the bar. He confirmed this by calling him. His dad, Dick, as they called him, usually went to the bar while Melvin's mother entertained her book club. It took Melvin about an hour to get to the bar and he finally came to his dad, who was watching a game while drinking beer. „Hey dad!“ he said to which Dick responded „Hey, Mel my boy, finally back from Wyoming? Did you find yourself a nice girl there?“. Richard was obviously intoxicated but it was irrelevant to his son „Yeah dad she was pretty hot and all but I need you to give me the letter Jen handed to you earlier today.“ His father finished his beer and said „Uhh... Letter? Letter... let-*hic* letter...“ He thought about it, snickering a bit for whatever reason. „Uhh I don't think I have it with me, Mel.“. His son sighed, too tired to react any other way „So... where is it?“ He took a sit and looked at the newspaper which talked about the rise of third party and mock candidates in this election. „Well“ Dick began explaining „I saw it was addressed to you, some fancy letter, so I left it on your desk in your room.“ He ate a few peanuts „Come to think of it, how come you didn't notice?“ Mel just realized, he didn't even enter his room, he just threw in his baggage and went to talk to his mom, so he didn't even notice. „I must have overlooked it“ he told his father „No biggie.“ He took a few peanuts himself. „Alright then,“ Dick rised from his seat „the game's over and your mom's annoying friends are probably gone, let's go home.“.

The father and son headed to their home, talked a bit about Melvin's experience in Wyoming, while slowly walking home. His father told him a few things about his parents and his own experiences and they exchanged a few laughs. But all that still couldn't drive off the letter from Melvin's mind.

They finally came home and Melvin rushed to his room. „Did you take off your shoes Melvin?“ his mother shouted as he ran by. He closed the door to his room, relaxed for a while on his bed as he was tired and then, after about ten minutes he went to his desk and looked at the letter.
