Undoing Vandalism

I'm sure it wasn't on purpose, but in the future when you see someone undoing vandalism like that, please do not do what you just did. That not only messes with the repairs, but stands a good chance of missing something. To ensure that all of it was done I just had to delete the page and resurrect it. So you know for the future. Hello! I was wondering if I could use your Yunnan and another Chinese-flag-I-can't-remember-the-name-of for my future timeline? The other flag has a yellow background with a Yin-Yang design made of the colours of the Five Races under One Union flag. However, I am going to edit the colours on it, 'cause I feel they're too bland for a country like China.

Cromwell TL

Hey there, I was about to start my TL and noticed that you have a very similar premise, and I wanted to just check before I started if you wouldn't mind the similarities. I've been planning a TL in which Oliver Cromwell accepts the Crown he was offered by Parliament against the wishes of the army. The Timeline will very swiftly go a different direction from yours, but the beginning may seem similar (as we're basing them on the same person.) I just wanted to let you know so you don't assume i'm just coping your idea and changing some details!

You are required to use the short name for your articles.

Am I to assume that there are two countries claiming to be France in this timeline? If so, than yes, the formal names can be used (but for both articles).

Please clarify. -- NuclearVacuum Russian America 18:31, January 25, 2018 (UTC)

If the two Frances are existing at the same time (a la the Koreas), than you need to name them both formally or distinctively (e.g., "North France")/
If one of your Frances is related to a former nation, than the currently existing state must be named "France", while the other is to be named formally (as with Wikipedia).
Does this make sense? -- NuclearVacuum Russian America 18:51, January 25, 2018 (UTC)

'Kingdom of Louisiana' idea for Cromwell the great

Hello JorgeGG! I am here today to propose to you an idea for "Cromwell the Great"! The idea is that Louisiana becomes a Kingdom during the "European Revolutionary Wars". You might be asking "well why?" Well the answer to that is that the French Royal Family flee the country of France to their colony in North America: Louisiana, and claim to be the rightful government of France. They declare the Kingdom of Louisiana. So yeah! I hope you respond and like my suggestion! Goodbye! ~~The History Nerd

Thank you for your response! But what do you mean by "Sketch" of it? I'm guessing you mean If I have a planned out infobox? I'm sorry, but I don't know how to create a Sandbox to do those things, so I don't, sorry 😅. But yes, I will post this idea on the talk page like you requested. Thanks for your response :) ~~The History Nerd

RE: Open for Adoption/General Discussion

Thanks to your hint via {{ofa}} I figured out how to put those boxes into articles. This also serves as the first time I've used a template on wikia (to my memory). Truth is not knowing how to add those boxes or even being aware that they where under 'template' is why I had not been adding them. Thank you for the hint :D Baron Joshua (talk) 21:59, January 28, 2018 (UTC)

I'm finding it amusing that the POD I'm using for Monarchist World is the Royalist winning the English Civil War and the wiki's recent activity consists largely of Cromwell the Great XD hahahaha Since this wasn't a question or suggestion but rather me sharing some amusement I've placed it under this subject :) Baron Joshua (talk) 01:45, January 30, 2018 (UTC)

RE: Monarchist World vs Cromwell the Great

XD Thank you the encouragement I hope to also have good fortune and be inspired in the creation of this timeline. In regards to wild ideas I did think 'what is this wiki like in Monarchist world' and even though I've yet to get far enough in it's timeline for theire to be an internet I went ahead and made note what came to my mind at work today XD Baron Joshua (talk) 02:00, January 30, 2018 (UTC)

Greetings JorgeGG, in response to your improvements to the France (Cromwell the Great) article I've began an article on France (Monarchist World) and decided to examine what material the King of France (Cromwell the Great) article pertained to the present era of focus in the Monarchist World project (a bit wordy that statement). I was hoping to find some idea regarding how the Parliamentary victory in the English Civil War impacted France both in OTL and in Cromwell the Great but not finding such I've clined to ask for your insight as you've been researching the subject longer then myself. Baron Joshua (talk) 22:25, January 31, 2018 (UTC)

As I familiarize myself with the English Civil War and the Forbe I'm sure it'll help in some regard. Right now I'm not studied enough in the subjects to know how useful the information will be; save in Enlightened Despotism in association with the reforms I did find out where put forward but rejected by Parliament (the French Parliaments that is). You have however given me direction regarding research into how the English Civil War impacts France by mentioning France as a refuge for Charles II during the English Civil. With this information (in relation to Monarchist World NOT having Charles I executed) I know that the answer I seek will come in researching the life of Charles II in France. It's open a door I did not previously notice but one that had always been open, as such you've pointed me in the right direction by providing a link between England and France during the English Civil War. Baron Joshua (talk) 23:54, January 31, 2018 (UTC)

Thank you

Hey man, thanks for adding some of my ideas to the history of louisiana and the FEIC (French East India Company) though given the FEIC was your idea though.

Ethiopia in 'Cromwell the Great'

Hello JorgeGG! I am here to ask if there is any differences from the Ethiopian Empire in Cromwell the Great, and OTL Ethiopian Empire. The reason is because I would like to make a proposal page for Ethiopia in Cromwell the Great. I have far been fascinated by Ethiopian history, and Ethiopia's resistance to European Colonization, and the fact that it was one of the most successful African states for a long time, along with being one of the few pre-colonial Christian majority African nations! If there are any major differences I need to know about, please tell me! ~~The History Nerd

Italy in "Cromwell the Great"

Hey, instead of Ethiopia ( I might do that later), could I make a article for the Italian Republic in CTG? I would use the information from the "History of Italy" article, and go by your requests. If you'd like, I can even make a proposal page! I egearly await your response! (PS, I might not actively update it, as I got tons of other projects to work on, such as "The British Ain't Coming", but this doesn't mean I'll leave the article blank for a week or anything). ~~The History Nerd

Thanks for looking at Knightfall :)

You're talking about the exploration aspect, right? I think this is plausible given that this greater Mongolia would have acess to more naviagators and sea specialists. Exploration will start when Mongol Khans bitter at each other attempt to out do each other by finding a quick route to superscede the other millitarly/economically.

The ripples of this will cause late medieval exploration different from our OTL.  Norse, Japanese and Indonesians will also get in the act in their own way. With memory of the Mongol Expeditions agressive Chinese Emperors will also be willing to look for new sea routes (temporairly).

This will result in a different coloumbian exchange, though Western Europeans will still propser from exploration as well.

Stepintime (talk) 00:47, February 8, 2018 (UTC)

YES :)

The chaos of the 1300 and 1400's will create completely new nationalities in Europe and Asia and also modify most existing ones.  Most strongly will be the new nations that carve out of Central ane Eastern Europe. Which are still 'European' but shaped under strong Mongol/Turkic and a  tiny dash of Tibetan/Chinese in the soup as well.

Africa, though not mentioned yet in detail will also have lots of changes, specifically East Africa where the decline of Arabic regimes will create an Egypt that looks ethincally different from our own. The nationality will be drawn from old Egyptians and Coptics but will also be very much influenced by Mongol and Crusader legacies. This new nationality will be a true three way mix between African, Asiatic and Caucasian genomes.

About Italy...

Hey Jorge!

Just wanted to give you a heads up on the Italy page. I know you probably aren’t focused on the progress of the proposal page, as it is a proposal, but I just wanted to tell you that I will eventually make the full proposal page. It’s just that I have so many things to do, I just opened a new map game, I have adopted a new timeline, and I have many other things in my life to do. I hope you understand (and know you will), but I thought i’d Give you a heads up as I didn’t want to seem like an unresponsable person that is unable to help, or that I just ditched the project. I guess it’s my fault for making so many timelines instead of just focusing on one, isn’t it? XD, anyway, hope you understand! ~~ The History Nerd

Future Lord Protectors

Hey JorgeGG,

I was just asking about how you determined the future Cromwells/lord protectors? As when I look up their names to see what they did in our timeline (assuming they are real) and didn’t find anything. If they do exist, how did you find them and what’s their link to the Cromwells? ~~The History Nerd

Yeah, I saw that before you messaged back, and yeah I know people can be made up. Thanks for the links though!

Oswald Mosley in 1920s/30s Brittanic Commonwealth

Hey I just thought of something, what would Oswald Mosley be like in this timeline if Britain is a Commonwealth? I understand that he might not even exist or might be something entirely different, and plus his extremist views came from his experience in World War 1, wanting to prevent another war and save the British Empire, so its likely he could just be a English farmer in Cornwall or something lol. But the possibilities are endless for this guy, he could be a major political figure in 1920s/30s Britain, and yes I understand that at the moment you are focusing on the 1800s and beyond, but I’ve seen many brief mentions of future events in the Cromwell timeline (such as petain becoming president in the 30s) and many other incomplete country pages for CTG, so hey! Anyway, Oswald could be a very influential dude if he stuck with his radical ideology, especially if he was a fascist/authoritarianist or even sticking to socialism! He and his ideas would contradict everything Cromwell’s commonwealth stood for, that its interesting to speculate what he could be like! Anyway, i’d Like to here your feedback on this, again, I am guessing Mosley won’t have much of an influence in this timeline. ~~The History Nerd

Newspaper companies and news networks in Cromwell the Great

Hey Jorge!

I was looking at your World Gezzatier and the word made me think of “Gazzet” as in a newspaper Gazzet. So I was thinking that maybe you could make a page or just one article on the newspapers/newspaper in Cromwell the Great, maybe for the Britannic Commonwealth or for the entire world!

Alright thanks! I’ll tell you when I have an idea.Colgan dog (talk) 14:50, February 17, 2018 (UTC)The History Nerd

Commonwealth of England...

I've been meaning to bring this up for a while, but I would love to get your side of the issue.

The site naming rules require all country names to be their colloquial ones. The article Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland (Cromwell the Great) clearly uses the formal name.

Since this nation is unique (historically speaking), I wish to get your opinion on what they would colloquially refer to themselves as. Personally, I really like the use of "the Commonwealth" for the name (very unique and original, IMHO), but you've also mentioned "Britannia" as an alternative.

In the future, this article will need to be renamed if possible, but I would prefer to have this conversation before anything is finalized. I look forward to hearing from you. -- NuclearVacuum Russian America 01:19, February 27, 2018 (UTC)

Communist Controlled America

You are more than welcome to give me a hand! What do you have in mind?

Stepintime (talk) 20:27, March 27, 2018 (UTC)

Very good to have many suggestions

Lets go through point by point 1. If I had made the timeline myself I would have just one POD, I don't see a need to make other POD's because all other events would flow from one effect. I strongly believe in subtle ripples that mostly cannot be seen at face value without hindsight. That being said the original creator had multiple points of divergences and I thought the concept was different. The timeline is attempting to answer the following question I think "If the old relams of Eurasia reformed in ways that appeared out of character how would this go back to effect the United States in the gilded age"

2. Ripples in the world would change many things, though the context of the pre revolution world should be explored, Particularly the effects of WWI on the American People. Narration should be emended into the introduction articles, The POD page was organized into sections by me from a wall of text. I also wrote the American section which the original author left out. If you look at the POD page you will see I attempted to describe how America slided into revolution.

Straight cause/effect v.s ripples must be one of the biggest theoretical issues of alternative history. We will need to work these issues out.

3. The cultural effects on media, psychology as well as ethnic/minority issues were one of the main reasons I took an interest in the timeline. I saw a great potential in describing a United States revolutionized by a charismatic woman in the ashes of the Great Depression. Certainly we should both delve deap into this I take an issue with America changing its name- as this would be a departure from other communistic regimes. One component I envision is that while the revolution changes America is that the country is still distinctly America and revaluates but does not dispose of the ideas of the first American Revolution Completely. A successful long-lasting leftist revolution in North America is a serious departure of history outside of Spanish cultured Cuba. A Communist America still sees its very much as a new world nation likely based on the principal of limited government (in terms of centralized power) in some ways.

That being said we could discuss some potential new names to consider the idea.

4. I totally agree, the formatting of the pages was one of the reasons I got involved in the first place, the formatting did not do justice to the interesting concept.

5. I have seen this previously with great interest, and the McKinley POD is quite a strong hinge point which could be re-thought for new timelines, certainly some inspiration is there but I intend for this to be its own defined character and brand.

6. The many POD's might take away some plausibility, but explanation could be made for why events succeed each other one step at a time. I want allow the reader to suspend disbelief and have strong plausibility here within the frame work already provided.

You bring up great points, lets collobrate :) --Stepintime (talk) 04:31, March 29, 2018 (UTC)

Response Communist-Controlled America

  •  I am glad you appreciated the southern parts in the general description of the war. I think we can both write more about that subject. I will also be adding more into the general description in giving an overview over different parts of the country
  • Its political monopoly will be challanged (the Party's) I imagine regional based parties like the ones you described. The Other opposition parties will ethier be liberal in nature or persudo-conservative parties that exist in a leftist guise.
  • Sarah Leslie should be the one and only People's President

I imagine being a teacher before will shape her views, I imagine for example that some African Americans in the South will also face charges just as white partisans did before Leslie is offended by any violence towards women and children. I imagine Leslie will have two distnct characters, one as a tough no-nosense lady, the second being a stern but nuturing far sighted sage.

I have enjoyed what you have made so far, what are your thoughts on a hypothetical global war?

How are you doing?

Thanks for the tip, but i think i will give up on writing alt hists. My links stop working and i am just terrible at creating good pages with the right things in it.

I agree with your points. And I think renaming the article series, would be a great idea, especially if you like ittoo!Stepintime (talk) 03:40, July 18, 2019 (UTC)

Sorry about that

I thought it looked familiar.

From Sea to Shining Sea

Hey JorgeGG! I was wondering if I could contribute to your timeline “From Sea to Shining Sea” by creating an article and just being overall in charge of Georgetown (Washington DC). I eagerly await your response. Colgan dog 18:18, August 21, 2019 (UTC)

The reason I put the Rebecca Smith page is because I didn’t like that guy was ruining my favorite decade.

New States of America

I have been thinking about our prior conservation on reorganizing the United States, and even though I still have the idea that states will mostly stay the same (to calm fears about an overbearing federal government), I think that some new republics could be reformed, most importantly would be the Republic of Sequoia and Oklahoma, and a new Appalachian Republic somewheres, in North Carolina, or Georgia,

Let me know what you think, I appreciate all of your ideas

I am not sure though that the USSR should follow OTL here, especially since I thinking something must change in America before 1900 or 1910 to cause this war.

Let me know what you think

Thank you

I'm going thru the Deletion backlog right now, and it strikes me that you have done an awful lot to help maintain the wiki. Not just finding and tagging duplicate files, for example, but identifying the files that they duplicate for easy replacement. Thanks for all your help! Here, take this.

JorgeGG, in recognition of your tireless work maintaining the Wiki, I present you with the Most Ancient and Chivalrous Order of the Barnstar. -Benkarnell (talk)

Message from Duckman367

Hi, so I’ve noticed that you edited my page and said “file already on this wiki” I was going to ask if this meant I duplicated an image (If I did, Sorry!) I’m new to the functions of this wiki, so I apologize if I break any rules.

Revert Nation Categories

You recently began removing the "Russia" categories from timeline-specific categories about Russia. This is not okay and destroys the whole purpose of the category system. Please revert all of these back to their previous state. Thank you. -- NuclearVacuum Russian America 20:01, June 28, 2020 (UTC)

I went ahead and reverted them for you. But please don't be removing country or timeline categories anymore. These are the primary purpose of the category system and under no circumstances should they be removed in the manner that you've been doing. Thank you. -- NuclearVacuum Russian America 20:21, June 28, 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Jorge, it is my first time to message you in eight years after joining this community. I think it is a right timing for me to address you directly since I just nominated you for the Lifetime Achievement Award (Writer) for the 2021 Stirling Awards. Thank you and have a noice day.

Thank you for the praise! I appreciate it! I have replied in more detail on my own talk page if you want to keep the discussion there.  EL CALIFORNIO  00:53, September 18, 2020 (UTC)

That was quick, adding the other pictures of Pat Brown to my newly created category for him. It really does help to keep such things more organized, especially with all the alternate biographies that sometimes appear here every once in a while.  EL CALIFORNIO  23:48, September 29, 2020 (UTC)

Taiwan doomsday

Yo, I noticed that you currently own the Taiwan (1983: Doomsday) article, but you haven't edited it for more than three months already. Do you plan to edit it in the future? If not, I will adopt it. Cheers! Firestarthegodcat (talk) 05:12, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I had to undo your edit to this page. The conventions for Merveilles des Morte (and probably the wiki as a whole) are such that we categorize a page as the name of a nation only when there is no timeline specific category for that nation. In this example the category "Sweden" is removed because it is already categorized as "Sweden (Merveilles des Morte)". It's proper procedure to add "Sweden" to the category "Sweden (Merveilles des Morte)", but to not put both on a page for Sweden. I also noticed that you added it immediately after I removed it, please do not keep re-adding it.

In conclusion for a page called Kingdom of Sweden (Merveilles des Morte) you would categorize it as "Sweden" OR "Sweden (Merveilles des Morte)" if the second option exists. If the second option you also click on "Sweden (Merveilles des Morte)" and add "Sweden" to that category.

If you choose to edit any pages in this timeline please keep this in mind. Thanks, Nathanadrian (talk) 00:45, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Re:Most intrigued

Firstly, I credit the development of my TL's two Germanies to 1234Chernobyl (East) and Icelandicwriters (West) because they helped (and are still helping) me in the brainstorming of ideas. They are young but talented and smart since both of them living in two different political societies (Cher under communism, Atli under liberal democracy). However, I only noticed The Republicans (REP) from 1990: Two Germanies by Steffplays on map just recently before I realized that they were initially less extremist than the present form.

We know that the REP was born from dissatisfied CSU members who felt their party (and the CDU) was not conservative enough. They were angry that Strauss had authorized bank loan to East Germany which contradicted with anti-communism of West German conservatives. But, there are two points that makes their growth in this TL is possible.

  1. First, West Germany solely uses the first-past-the-post system to elect all members of the Bundestag in this TL rather than the mixed-member proportional representation. As a result, only the CDU and the SPD that can enter the Bundestag, while the CSU remained with their safe base in Bavaria.
  2. Second, in 1976, the CSU under Strauss had intended to break away from the CDU following that year's election and fielded their own candidates at the federal level rather than limited only to Bavaria. In OTL, Kohl was able to prevent it by offering Strauss the candidacy for chancellor in 1980. In this TL, Strauss insisted to do so.

Now with both the CDU and CSU fought over a same voter base, it will be disastrous for both of them and another victory for the SPD in 1980. On other hand, the wasted votes for other third parties were still large by that period, especially for the FDP. So, it will be logical for the CDU to form an electoral alliance with the FDP a la SDP-Liberal Alliance in the UK. Therefore, the CDU-FDP Alliance was able to capture many districts from the SPD and CSU federally in 1980. This defeat would be disastrous to the CSU and as the time progressed they would abandoned the party to the REP.

At the same time, Kohl was originally a member of liberal-wing of CDU in OTL, so his alliance with the FDP would moved the party more into socially liberal direction. This move would disappointed many right-wing CDU members. With the REP that had attempted to be a "federal version of CSU" as originally envisioned by Strauss, conservative voters gradually turned over to the REP, especially after the deposition of Kohl as the CDU leader in 1989. After 1995, the REP would eventually replaced the CDU as the main conservative party in West Germany and of course, it will assumes centre-right position to capture old CDU voters federally.

The President of West Germany is indirectly elected as in OTL. I am simply too lazy to think over possible presidents if the office is being directly elected lol.

The SED in this TL will be more like somewhere between the OTL SED and the OTL Party of Democratic Socialism. Cher has advised so much to build the narrative to make the SED somewhat closer to the OTL Communist Party of Vietnam with less rigid leadership and more decentralized internal policy-making process.

Edit: Oh, thank you so much for your kind words! While I am felt appreciated with the award, I believe I should work harder from now on to develop my timeline. FirstStooge (talk) 14:34, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Categories Rework

Hi Jorge, FP here. Amongst the TSPTF we've been having some discussion about the future of categorisation, particularly the categorisation of flags, maps, coats of arms, etc. I thought I'd get in touch with you because you do so much work to keep things tidy here.

One of the main reasons for categorisation of files is so that a user can easily find a flag/map/CoA that already exists on the site, so they don't upload a duplicate and incur the wrath of Nuke. We've noticed some of the categories aren't really fit for that purpose anymore. For example, Category:Flags has almost 13k files, which is obviously quite difficult to search through. There are some pages in that category with a gallery of flags for each country, but when uploading a new flag, users might not know they'd need to add it to that page too.

In general, the system is overdue a rework. It should be easier for someone to find the file they need, but also easy for a user to know which category to put their file into. It seems like we may need more sub-categorisation, with a sub-category for each country's flags, flags of organisations, etc. This goes for CoA and maps too. Obviously this will be a big task with so many files, but it will definitely be worth it in the long run, I'm sure you'd agree.

Anyway I was just wondering if you have any thoughts or ideas on the best way to plan this out and implement it, as you are something of a categorisation expert. Thanks! FP (talk) 13:41, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Sounds good, it's very much a long-term plan given the scale of the issue, so no rush for ideas or anything. Cheers! FP (talk) 00:20, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
