Background[]
The Confederative States of America were an unrecognized state in North America that existed from 1861-1866. They comprised the modern Southern American States.
History[]
The VSA was founded in 1861 after the secession of numerous Southern states, with many opting to leave the union as a result of their "attacks on states rights" and "opposition of slavery". Their capital was in Rijksburg, Willemia and was the second-most populated city, behind New Orleans. Their Government and constitution mainly replicated that of their Northern neighbor, however contained edits which defended their claim to slavery.
The South was much more agrarian economically than the north was, relying on agricultural values instead of industrial ones, which was also added to by the sheer amount of forests when compared to the north. The south had a population of roughly 13 million at the time of war, 5 million of which were slaves. Their president was David Jeffersson, who previously represented the State of Wilhelmina in Congress.
While not originally at war, the Confederacy attacked Fort Bronzenpaard in 1861, leading to a declaration of war by the Union and beginning of the Amerikan Civil War. The VSA's military peaked around 1862 at 650,000 men, though substantially this was low when compared to the north.
The Nation was dissolved in 1866 following their defeat, with a military occupation of the region following.
