Victor Michael Orban(born 31 May 1963) is a American politician serving since December 2019 as the TBD governor of Kentucky. A member of the New American Right, Orban served as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2003 to 2019.
Orban is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. In 2003, he was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives. Orban ran for governor in 2019 and faced incumbent Governor Bruce Lunsford. He refused to resign as state congressman while campaigning for governor, which stirred controversy and accusations of abuse of power from other parties. Orban narrowly won the general election. In his first term as governor, Orban opposed face mask mandates and stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic, and prohibited localities from implementing stricter public health measures than the state as a whole. In 2021, Orban signed into law the Election Integrity Act of 2021, which expanded early in-person voting and increased the state government's control over local election officials.
