-Outline: VietMinh fight against occupying Japanese supported by USA. Due to French acquiescence to Japanese occupation, after the war, Americans opposed re-establishment of French colonial rule and recognized government formed by Ho Chi Minh in Hue.
France did not formally ally with Japan. Diplomatically, France "did not oppose voluntary Indo-Chinese participation in the Co-Prosperity Sphere."
