Vistara, officially the Republic of Vistara, is a country in western and central Africa, bordering Mali and Chad to the north, Dahomey to the west, and the Central African Empire and Vesperia to the east. The country's nearly 43 million people speak 250 native languages as well as Polish, which acts as the lingua franca for the country.

History[]

Precolonial history[]

Prior to the arrival of European powers, the area of what would eventually become New Poland consisted of various different cultures and ethnic groups. It is believed that the Bantu Migrations reached New Poland from the southern part of the continent around 2,000 years ago.

The Sao culture had emerged as the dominant culture in the region around the fourth or sixth century BC and eventually evolved into the Bornu Empire. The Bornu Empire remained a dominant power in this region of Africa until their conquest by colonists from the Lublin Commonwealth in 1900.

As a colony of the Lublin Commonwealth[]

While many European powers were pushed out from West Africa by Mali, the Lublin Commonwealth was allowed to establish trading outposts in the west-central portion of the continent due to their alliance with the Mali Empire and the current Mansa's affinity for Lublin.

In 1890, Stefan Szolc-Rogoziński was allowed to establish a trading colony in what is now the city of Douala. Much of New Poland's early growth was fueled by trade with the Mali Empire and other local kingdoms in the region. By 1900, additional funding from the Lublin Commonwealth and wars fought against the Bornu Empire would lead to the colony of New Poland encompassing the territory of the modern country and what is now the Central African Empire. This territory has historically been referred to as Lublin Africa or Polish Africa.

During the Fourth Great War, government officials of the United Commonwealths had devised a plan to escape to New Poland if the country was conquered by France. While the Commonwealth successfully repelled the invasion by late 1939, the plans still existed on the book.

Independence and the creation of the Republic of Vistara[]

While the United Commonwealths avoided conquest during the Fourth Great War, it came at a hefty cost economically. The Lublin Commonwealth suffered economically in the 1940s as the government ran severe deficits in rebuilding its infrastructure and army from the Second World War. As a result, the United Commonwealths were not able to financially support its colonial holdings in Africa. At the same time, nationalism among the New Polish people also bolstered an independence movement. This led to the United Commonwealths agreeing to hold an independence referendum in 1950.

In the 1950 referendum, the residents of New Poland voted overwhelmingly for independence from the United Commonwealths. The country would officially gain independence on November 5, 1950. After much internal discussion, it was eventually decided to change the name of the nation from New Poland to Vistara. Vistara being a Sanskrit word “vast” or “expansive”, this new name was meant to represent the cultural variety present within the nation, showcasing it as one of the fledgling nations greatest strengths. Elections would see Henryk Jaśkiewicz to be elected as the first president of the Republic of Visitara the following month.

Since its independence, Vistara has undergone economic and political development. The country has emerged as one of the dominant players within the African Union and a large regional voice within the League to Enforce Peace.
