Vladimir Lenin, first leader of the Soviet Union
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870-1924) was the first leader of the Soviet Union from 1917 to his death.
It was Lenin who led the October Revolution against the Russian Empire in 1917, and withdrew from the First World War. Lenin led the Bolsheviks in the Russian Civil War, and became the first leader of the new state: the Soviet Union.
He tried to warn his fellow Bolshevists about his successor Joseph Stalin, but to no avail.
