Vojvodina (Serbian: Војводина Vojvodina) is an autonomous province of Serbia, located in the north of the country: it borders Romania to the east, Hungary to the north, Croatia to the west and the rest of Serbia to the south. Vojvodina, because of its location, has always been a location of clashes between empires: in its history, it was first ruled by Hungarian, then by Ottomans, then finally by the Habsburg empire. When the Austro-Hungarian empire collapsed, the population of the region, predominantly ethnical Serbs, chose to become a part of the Serbian kingdom.

The region is mostly plain, covered in large forests and crossed by numerous rivers: its fertile soil make it an agricultural breadbasket for the rest of Serbia. Its economy is not highly industrialized (except around the largest cities), and depends mostly on forestry and agriculture.
