Alternative History

WWE Survivor Series was a 2006 professional wrestling event put on by World Wrestling Entertainment. It was the 20th Survivor Series event, the 11th event of 2006 and the 203rd event overall in the alternate WWF timeline. Emanating from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, the main event was a Steel Cage World Heavyweight Title match between Batista and King Booker. Other matches on the card included John Cena defending the WWE title against Carlito, a Survivor Series match with teams captained by Batista and King Booker respectively (with the winning team captain getting to pick the stipulation for the main event match) and a Survivor Series match featuring D-Generation X facing Rated RKO.

Prelude[]

At No Mercy, Batista had managed to defeat World Heavyweight Champion King Booker to win his second championship. However, his victory was short lived, as he was quickly assaulted by members of King Booker's Royal Court, Mark Henry and Finlay. William Regal than brought forward the Money in the Bank briefcase that Booker had won back at Wrestlemania 22, and that he had never cashed in. Cashing it in, Booker was immediately granted a World Title rematch right then and there, allowing him to easily beat the battered new champion to regain the title. On the following Smackdown, Booker dismissed any notion of Batista ever receiving a rematch, a decision that Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long sadly had to agree with. Batista however managed to coerce the King into one final title match, putting his career on the line in response. To add further drama to the match, Long ruled that there would be a 5 on 5 Survivor Series match featuring teams captained by the two participants. Who's ever team won would get the opportunity to determine the stipulation for the main event. King Booker's team consisted of his Royal Court, as well as Chris Benoit. Batista's team consisted of himself, Bobby Lashley, Mr. Kennedy, Rob Van Dam and the returning Rey Mysterio.

After losing to Rob Van Dam at No Mercy, Carlito found himself traded to Monday Night Raw. He wasted no time in finding his footing on the red brand, immediately challenging WWE Champion John Cena. He then shocked the champion by pinning him in a six man tag match a week later. This was enough for Raw Interim General Manager Johnathan Coachman to grant Carlito a WWE Title shot at Survivor Series, continuing the desire that Coachman had to try and end Cena's title reign (given that Cena and he had been briefly feuding in recent weeks). However, Vince McMahon, growing tired of Coachman's "buffoonery" ruled that if Cena won the match, then he would get 5 minutes alone in the ring with the Coach, and that Vince would likely fire the Interim GM the following night on Raw.

The feud between D-Generation X and the McMahons had morphed into a feud between DX and a new grouping known as Rated RKO. Consisting of Edge and Randy Orton, the two had attacked Triple H and Shawn Michaels following their Hell in a Cell match at Unforgiven with the McMahons. They then won the tag team titles in quick order. Both Orton and Edge had scored individual victories over the members of D-X leading into Survivor Series, during which each team would captain a 5 man team against the other. Joining Team DX were Ric Flair, Goldust and Shelton Benjamin. Joining Team Rated RKO was Chris Masters, Elijah Burke and Johnny Nitro.
