The Warsaw Pact, officially the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, is a collective defence treaty signed in Warsaw among several sovereign states of Central and Eastern Europe during the Cold War.

The Warsaw Pact is the military complement to the Eurasian Council, the regional economic organization for the socialist states of Central and Eastern Europe. The alliance was created in reaction to American President and Russian ex-patriot Leon Trotsky's decision to integrate Germany into the North Atlantic Socialist Treaty Organization.
