The West German Federation includes OTL Netherlands, Belgium, Schleswig, Holstein, Oldemburg, Hanover, Rhineland, and Luxembourg, plus some overseas colonies.
History
In 1790, Austria Netherlands rebels against the Hapsburgs and form the Unites States of Netherlands. Soon Lieg (1790), the Seven United Provinces (1797), and Trier (1802) joined the U. S. of N.
The United States of Netherlands was involved in the war of 1812, gaining prestige in the German Realm. After the war the U. S. of N. is given joint control of Schleswig and Holstein shared with Denmark. Soon a balance of power is developed in the German Realm, as many states seek an alliance to the Netherlands as an alternative to Prussia or Austria.
The Great Germanic War of 1860, originally between Prussia and Austria, help reorganizing all German states into the three current blocks. After the Netherlands joined in 1862 against both Prussia and Austria Germany became divided in the three current countries. In the treaty of Frankfurt of 1863, Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover, Holstein, Luxemburg, Oldemburg, Schleswig, Rhineland, and the United States of Netherlans joined a Confederation of West German States. The Capital was chosen at Amsterdam. The Holy Roman Empire was disolved.
The Confederation soon entered a path towards greather central power. In 1916, the current states and borders were settled.
