WFA Champions[]
The WFA Champion is decided every year through the WFA playoffs. The top three teams from each division qualify - the top division seed gets a first round bye while the two other teams play a quarterfinal at the home stadium of the No. 2 seed. The winner of that game plays at the No. 1 seed's home stadium the following weekend in the semifinal.
Two weekends later, the North Division winner and South Division winner face off at a neutral site (preferably within the WFA's geographical zone, although championship games have been held elsewhere), in which the winner wins the Western Cup. Unlike most sports leagues, which produce a new trophy every year for the champion, the Western Cup is a single award, much like the NHL's Stanley Cup, and stays with the previous year's champion until a new champion is crowned. The current Western Cup champion is the Tacoma Totems.
In odd numbered years, the North Division is the home team for the Western Cup Final, and in even numbered years the South is the home-team designate. For example, in January 2012, the Los Angeles Rams were the home team, as the year was odd, even though it was the championship game for the 2011 season.
