Introduction[]
The Western Sahara was a territory that claimed independence in 1975, both Morocco and Mauritania attempted a land grab, but Mauritania withdrew.
Failed Independence attempt[]
The territory was unable to hold onto its new found independence, and gradually lost ground to Morocco. By 1989, Western Sahara was completely overwhelmed by Moroccan forces and annexed.
