What kind of Nazi TL do I want?[]
There are already many timelines in which the Nazis win World War II. Hundreds, if not thousands have tried to rehash this topic on the internet. It has been covered in published books, movies, TV shows etc. as well. But somehow, I'm still not satisfied after consuming several of those. And am wondering: Why? How would a "Nazis win" timeline have to look in order for myself being satisfied in every possible way, for being written well?
- It should be realistic - no successful "Operation Sea Lion", no magic, no Alien Space Bats. Changes which are reasonable; developments which are possible and comprehensible.
- It should make use of the Butterfly Effect. If history diverges in late May 1940, there'll be barely any individuals born after February 1941 in our world.
- It shouldn't whitewash the Nazis, but show their crimes, their madness, and their other... bad sides.
- It should depict the crazy plans of the Nazis and how they're realized. Extermination camps, enslavement, settlement of the East.
- It should show those Germans aren't won't become Nazis even after the "Endsieg".
- It should tell at least some things about the world outside the great powers.
- It should show which influence this world's history will have on people who aren't directly hit by the war, conquests, and genocides, e.g. many average US Americans.
- It shouldn't just consist of battles and maps, but also cover aspects like the economy, science, culture, and society in general. At least the most important developments, especially if they go in different ways - and tell us why they went that way.
- It should cover the fate (or hinting at it, at least) of people who became famous in our history: As politicians, generals, scientists, great artists, religious leaders - or big criminals or neonazis.
- It should contain many original ideas, which aren't found yet in any "Nazis win" timeline. (And I do have many ideas for the war and the time afterwards.)
- OTOH, it should contain at least some elements from our history since 1940.
- It should depict how the smartest opponents of the Nazis from politics, science, the economy, and culture will fight them, to make right what went wrong in this timeline.
- It should be exciting at the same time, so it'll make you wonder who'll win at the end. (Because at the moment, even I don't know how it will turn out!)
- It should show how the "Reich" will develop given time; and this development shouldn't go into the same direction forever, no matter which one.
- It should depict the breakdown of the "Reich", and be able to explain how it came about.
- It should do all of this in a way as concise as possible. Without listing the history of Germany back to the Stone Age, without a list of US presidents back to Washington, without the kind of informations which you have read a thousand times before in different places, like e.g. that the father of a certain Central European dictator was born as Alois Schicklgruber.
That's why I'm writing "How many Sixes...".
