The Republic of Wyoming, commonly referred to simply as Wyoming, is a nation comprising the entirety of the former American state of Wyoming, as well as several adjacent areas. It shares borders with Lakotah to the north-northeast, Deseret to the south-southwest, the Union of Western Survivor States (UWSS) to the west, and Missoula to the north-northwest.

Originally inhabited by tribes such as the Crow, Arapaho, Lakota, and Shoshone, present-day Wyoming was settled by Europeans very late compared to other parts of North America. The southwestern corner of the state was originally claimed by the Spanish Empire, and later Mexico, before being ceded to the United States in 1848 as a concession of the Mexican-American War.

Compared to neighboring Colorado and Nebraska, the state of Wyoming was not heavily impacted by the Great Pandemic. Approximately 40% of its population was infected by Pandemic H5N1/04, and 29% of those infected would die. It was one of only four states to retain a functional state government following the collapse of the federal government in Washington in August 2005.

The government in Cheyenne was quick to consolidate power, and Wyoming became one of the earliest major survivor states in the former United States. Peacekeeping missions saw regions of adjacent states occupied and annexed by Wyoming, and the Wyoming National Guard, reorganized as the Wyoming Army, resorted to unethical means to crush opposition.

Geography[]

Climate[]

The climate of Wyoming is incredibly diverse. Most of the nation experiences a semi-arid or continental climate, and the state's diverse topography contributes to conditions windier and more arid than its neighbors. Summers can bring extreme heat, and temperatures reaching or exceeding 95°F (35°C) are not unusual across much of Wyoming. Its high average elevation translates into a rapid overnight decrease in temperature, and average lows generally range from 50-60°F (10-16°C).

Winters in Wyoming are often brutal, with average highs ranging from 20-35°F (-7°C-2°C) and average lows ranging from 0-15°F (-18°C-9°C). However, it is not uncommon for Chinook winds to usher in periods of milder weather, with temperatures occasionally reaching or exceeding 60°F (16°C) during these periods. Much of the state is very arid, receiving less than 10 inches (250 mm) of precipitation per year. Mountain ranges are the exception to this rule, occasionally receiving over 20 inches (510 mm) of yearly precipitation, the majority of this falling as snow.
