Overview[]

The Republic of Zaire is a vast nation located within Central Africa. It is a largely modern state, with a population of 37.6 million citizens, most of whom reside within cities. The national economy is based on industrial exports, usually raw materials of which the country is believed to have US$24 trillion worth of. The government has heavily subsided mining in the province of Katanga and Kivu, where the majority of these resources are located. Mining accounts for 15% of all jobs in the country.

Economy[]

Zaire has an annual GDP (nominal) of $96.634 billion dollars (1976 est.), and a GDP per capita of $2,570. Agriculture remains an important facet of Zairian life, with more than half of the population engaged in the farming market. Recent advances in farming technology have allowed the nation to put its well-watered and fertile lands to good use, and provide enough food to feed all of Central Africa and most of the continent with. However, Zaire remains far away from actually achieving the capabilities of reaching its maximum farming capacity.

During the Makiadi administration, Zaire was able to capitalize on its position as the second-most industrialized nation in Africa, and develop its infaustructure to a point where it has been able to manufacture its own high-end products, such as cars, trains, trucks, and airplanes. The nation's defense industry is well-developed as well, with Zaire capable of producing tanks, fighter jets, and cruise missiles. This has allowed the nation to build up a large military force with indiginously-produced wares, thus cutting the cost of importing military goods.

Transportation[]

The nation possesses 29,250 km of railways, and several tens of tens of miles of road. These are supported by the usage of canals and the wide Congo River which can support large cargo ships into the heart of the nation, where many ports and warfs reside. Plans to begin develop high-speed rails for the nation to showcase Zaire's dynamic economic growth are to take place in 1980.

Military[]

The Zairian Armed Forces (Forces Armées Zaïroises), or FAZ, are the official military forces of Zaire. The military consists of 850,000 soldiers, 3,800 armored vehicles, and 500 aircraft. The navy is rather small for the size of the nation wielding it, with fewer than 20 vessels. The military is wholly professional, and conscription, though legal, has not been used by the government. The military plans to acquire additional MBTs from foreign governments, or purchase the licenses needed to produce them indigenously.

Allies[]

It is allies with Central African Republic (Axis vs Allies: Revolutions Map Game).
